Tree falls on top of moving vehicle Charles R. Dykes, 66, of 2193 Dark Hollow Road, in Cosby, was driving a 2009 Ford Explorer north on Highway 73 on Wednesday, June 17, about 6:45 p.m. when high winds knocked a tree over that fell on top of his vehicle, causing severe damage to the Ford. The accident occurred near Highway 25/70. Neither Dykes nor a passenger were injured.
Disturbance alleged Mary Frye, 44, of Knob Creek Road, reported a disturbance on Thursday, June 18, according to a report by Sgt. Daniel Conard. Frye stated that she and an individual had gotten into a verbal argument about a new job she had acquired and other minor issues. The individual allegedly became enraged and pulled the ceiling fan down out of the ceiling, punched holes in the wall, pulled the porch light off the wall and busted it, and busted an indoor flower pot, according to Conard's report. Police responded and talked to the individual, who at one point started having trouble breathing, lost the color in his face, and collapsed onto the front porch. The individual came around in about five minutes, but complained of trouble breathing and his chest hurting. Officers advised him an ambulance was in route and they awaited for its arrival, according to the report.
Freightliner truck stuck in person's property Amy Austin, 31, of 355 Odell Road, in Newport, told Cocke County Deputy Sheriff Travis Webb and other officers on Thursday, June 18, that when she arrived home, there was a white Freightliner truck stuck in the field across from her house. The semi had allegedly tried to turn around and in the process damaged the field and possibly Austin's water line.
Harassment alleged Crystal Townsend, 31, and Regina Lunsford, 35, of Ransom Circle, in Newport, reported to Cock County Deputy Sheriff C. J. Ball on Thursday, June 18, that they have been victims of sexual harassment from an individual.
Police
Failure to appear charge and arrest William G. Watson, 19, of 254 Clifton Heights Road, in Newport, was arrested at Mapco gas station on Thursday, June 18, and charged with failure to appear out of Cocke County General Sessions Court, according to a report by Sgt. Stephen Higginbotham. The officer responded to a complaint of an altercation between two people.
Failure to appear arrest on 2nd Street and Filbert Clarissa N. Webb, 24, of 138 Rhea St., in Newport, was arrested Friday, June 19 at about 3:30 a.m. at 2nd Street and charged with failure to appear. Police allegedly stopped a vehicle that Webb was a passenger in, according to a report by Capt. Scott Lamb. A check allegedly showed Webb had a failure to appear warrant in General Sessions Court in Cocke County that was taken out on June 23, 2008.
Arrest for public intoxication Phillip A. Robinette, 44, of 62 Bethlehem Park Lane, in Taylorsville, N.C., was arrested by Patrolman David Smith on Thursday, June 18, at Family Inns of America, at 1025 Cosby Highway, in Newport, and charged with public intoxication. Smith's report said he responded to a call of an unwanted person on the Family Inns property. Robinette allegedly had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath and was unsteady on his feet. Smith wrote that Robinette was arrested for being belligerent to the motel staff.
Fugitive from justice arrested Tony R. Hyatt, 45, of 112 Keystone Way, in Newport, was arrested Thursday, June 18, and charged with being a fugitive from justice, according to a report by Capt. Scott Lamb. Hyatt was arrested at Lakeview and Kyker streets after police responded to a call of a fight at that intersection. Hyatt was allegedly found in a vehicle involved in an altercation. An NCIC check by Lamb allegedly found that Hyatt was wanted for a strong-arm rape out of Harnett County, in N.C.
Would-be burglar allegedly caught in the act Jeremy George Jones, 19, of 181 Alpha Road, in Newport, was arrested on Friday, June 19, at 2:10 a.m. and charged with burglary of an auto, resisting arrest, possession of burglary tools, vandalism, and possession of Schedule VI drugs, according to reports by Patrolman Ricky Parton and Jason Hensley. Police were dispatched to Mooneyham's Auto Sales at 435 Cosby Highway on a person allegedly trying to steal a vehicle. Mooneyham, 56, the owner, was holding Jones down in a Chevrolet C-10 pickup truck when police arrived. Police got Jones out of the car and asked him several times to give his hand to them, but he would not, according to the report. He also allegedly tried to keep handcuffs off of him. Police reportedly observed the ignition to the pickup truck had been broken off, found tools to steal a vehicle, and when they checked Jones for weapons, they found about three grams of marijuana, the report stated. The owner said Jones went to the auto lot earlier in the day and pretended he was going to buy a vehicle. Mooneyham also said Jones drove by the lot several times at night at a slow speed.
Vandalism under $500 and harassment alleged Amber Hance, 19, of 254 Clifton Heights Road, in Newport, alleged that an individual kicked the driver's door and the trunk lid, causing a dent, of her 1996 Nissan Maxima on Thursday, June 18, according to a report by Sgt. Steve Higginbotham of the Newport Police Department. Later that evening, she said the individual came by her job at Sonic Drive-In, making threats and trying to get her to fight. Damage to the trunk lid of the Nissan was estimated at $150.
Accident at Krystal Ericka Lee Miller, 33, of 229 Highway 160, in Newport, said she was exiting the drive-thru at Krystal, at 579 West Broadway, on Thursday, June 18, and she made contact with a metal railing, causing damage to the passenger side of her 2001 Ford F-250 pickup truck, according to a report by Patrolman William Garber.
Hit-and-run at Walmart alleged Monica Grubb, of 5715 Long Creek Road, in Morristown, said that she was a victim of a hit-and-run accident on Thursday, June 18, at about 6:40 p.m. in the Walmart parking lot, according to a report by Capt. Scott Lamb. Grubb told police that she parked her 2007 Honda Civic and entered Walmart. She said that upon returning to her car, she found someone had apparently damaged the driver's side door of her car with another vehicle's door.
