Domestic assault charge and arrest
Christopher L. Romines, 33, of 517 Old Sevierville Road, in Newport, was arrested Friday, June 12, at about 1:30 a.m. and charged with domestic assault after officers responded to a domestic disturbance in progress. Tasha Romines stated that her husband had been drinking and "snapped" during a verbal argument over who would go to the store to purchase cigarettes. Christopher Romines allegedly punched his wife in the face, grabbed her by the neck as she sat in a chair, and then picked her up off the chair and struck her again. She then ran outside and called 911, and he slapped the phone away from her and hit her again, according to Tasha Romines and a witness. Christopher Romines allegedly ran into the woods where Constable Nathan White and Correctional Officer Michael Wittmer found him and arrested him. Swelling and red marks on Tasha Romines were consistent with the alleged assault, a report by Cocke County Deputy Sheriff Jason Oury stated.

Arrest for DUI 2nd offense, plus two other charges
Darrell Shelton, 58, of 321 Midway Road, in Newport, was arrested at home on Friday, June 12, on warrants taken out by Cocke County Deputy Sheriff Derrick Webb after Shelton was allegedly involved in an accident on March 8 on Blue Mill Road, according to a report by Webb. Shelton was charged with driving under the influence 2nd offense, driving while his license was revoked, and failure to exercise due care.

Failure to appear charge and arrest
Michael Shane Waldroup, 29, of 610 River St., in Newport, was arrested at home on Friday, June 12, and charged with failure to appear in Cocke County General Sessions Court, according to a report by arresting officer David Crowder of the Cocke County Sheriff's Department.

Arrested on alleged warrant for domestic assault
James Scott Hall, 33, of 650 Village East, in Newport, was allegedly arrested at 330 9th St., in Newport, on Friday, June 12, on a warrant for domestic assault, according to a report by Cocke County Deputy Sheriff David Crowder.

One-vehicle accident reported on Highway 160
Kim Belton, 47, of 356 White Oak Ave., in Newport, was allegedly driving a 2008 Ford 350 north on Highway 160 near Land Way on Friday, June 12, when around noon her vehicle's right wheels dropped off the road and into a ditch. The vehicle allegedly struck a culvert over 90 feet after leaving the road, continued across the culvert and back into the ditch. It then came to rest off the north bound side of Highway 160 about 69 feet past the culvert, according to a report by Cocke County Deputy Sheriff Timothy N. Snapp. Belton was transferred by Allied EMS for unspecified injuries.

Two-vehicle accident on Clear Creek Road
Mary F. Vercheeck, 38, of 500 Saint Tide Road, in Newport, was allegedly driving north on Clear Creek Road in a 2002 Nissan XGX on Wednesday, June 10, when around 6 p.m., while negotiating a curve, collided with a 2005 Dodge Durango driven by Donovan R. Hall, 35, of 691 Clear Creek Road, in Newport, and headed south on Clear Creek Road. Vercheeck allegedly applied the brakes to her Nissan, but due to wet road conditions, slid into the driver's side of the Dodge Durango driven by Hall. Damage was reported to the side and rear tire well of the Nissan, and to the front, side and undercarriage of the Dodge Durango. No injuries were reported, according to a report by Cocke County Deputy Sheriff Jason Oury.

Hit-and-run reported on Cove Hollow Road
Brittany N. McGrew, 20, of 2180 Tobes Creek Road, in Cosby, was allegedly driving a teal 1995 Chevrolet when she turned on to Cove Hollow Road from River's Edge Drive, on Thursday, June 11, around 2:30 p.m., according to a report by Cocke County Deputy Sheriff Jason Oury. A black Chevrolet S-10 with tinted windows reportedly struck the teal Chevrolet in the rear end as both vehicles headed east on Cove Hollow Road. The impact reportedly damaged the teal Chevrolet's bumper and rear hatch, and shattered the rear glass, according to Oury's report. The report also stated that McGrew was complete free of the intersection when her vehicle was struck from behind.

Injury reported in single-vehicle accident
Nicholas A. Daugherty, 20, of 620 Benjamin Blvd., in Morristown, was allegedly driving a 2002 Nissan Sentra east on Highway 25/70 near River Crest on Wednesday, June 10, around 6 a.m. when he exited the road to the left. The Nissan reportedly struck a ditch, which broke the driver's side front wheel from the vehicle. The vehicle then spun and came to rest in the ditch facing the opposite direction. Cocke County Deputy Sheriff Jason Oury wrote in a report that the vehicle suffered severe damage to its front end, sides, and undercarriage. Daugherty reportedly complained of back pain and was transported by an Allied ambulance to Baptist Hospital of Cocke County for an evaluation.

Accident in driveway
Mickey Eugene Perrymon, 39, of 1209 Highway 113, in White Pine, was allegedly backing a trailer attached to a 1988 Chevy Silverado pickup truck in a driveway at 1229 Green Acres Drive when it struck a 2004 Dodge Intrepid parked in the driveway, according to a report by Cocke County Deputy Sheriff Jason Oury. The driverless Dodge allegedly suffered damage to its driver's side rear quarter panel and rear fender. The trailer suffered damage to its passenger side light fixture, Oury wrote in his report.

Theft reported
Terry Camerow, 51, of Allen Chapel Road, reported that while on vacation from Sunday, June 7, to Thursday, June 11, his home was broken into and several items taken, according to a report by Cocke County Deputy Sheriff David Crum.
The stolen items were: a Sears 30/30 rifle (valued at $200), a Marlin semi-automatic rifle ($175), a battery charger ($150), Craftsman Skill saw ($175), DeWalt grinder ($200), a GPS system ($450), a Kodak camera with printer ($350), and a four-cycle straight shaft ($400).

Vandalism reported
Kim Large, 53, of 225 Rivera Drive, alleged that on Wednesday, June 10, her son ran into her bedroom and told her an individual had run over their mailbox, then backed up and gone up the road. The mailbox was estimated at $75, and its post at $10, according to a report by Cocke County Deputy Sheriff Joseph Owings.

Break-in of vehicle alleged
Melissa Harris, 29, of 691 Clear Creek Road, in Parrottsville, reported that on Saturday, June 6, around 1:15 p.m., someone got into her car while she was in the Country Convenience Market on Highway 160, according to a report by Lt. Rick Laws of the Cocke County Sheriff's Department. Harris told Laws that her purse was ransacked and three prescription bottles taken from the purse. Laws wrote that there was no visible sign of forced entry to the vehicle. Harris allegedly said she was not gone more than 5-10 minutes from her vehicle. The medication stolen was valued at $320, the report stated.

Vandalism alleged
Bobby Sutton, 21, alleged that on Thursday, June 11, three individuals destroyed a Samsung TV valued at $40 and an RCA DVD player at $50 when he retrieved them from a residence. One individual allegedly told Sutton, "If you try to come up here to get the rest of your stuff, you'll be going down the hill in a plastic bag," according to a report by Cocke County Deputy Sheriff Jason Oury.

Violation of probation charge and arrest
Following the arrival of police to investigate an argument, James (Scott) Williams, 36, of 1560 East Highway 25/70, in Newport, was arrested at an apartment parking lot on Appalachian Way on Tuesday, June 9, and charged with violation of probation. A NCIC check allegedly revealed that Williams had a violation of probation warrant for his arrest in Cocke County, according to a report by Patrolman David R. Smith.

Three charges in arrest
Mary A. Williamson, 34, of 330 9th St., in Newport, was arrested outside her residence and charged with not displaying a license plate, driving on a suspended license and no insurance, on Friday, June 12, at 3:15 a.m. Williamson was allegedly stopped on 9th Street for driving a vehicle without a license plate, according to a report by Patrolman Matthew Elliott. He wrote that after he activated his emergency lights and siren, Williamson drove about one half of a block to park at her home. Elliott wrote that a check through central dispatch found Williamson had a suspended license out of Sevier County dated Feb. 16 for failure to provide financial responsibility. In the June 12 stop, she allegedly could not show proof of insurance for the vehicle she was driving.

A 14-year-old arrested at Walmart
A 14-year-old who lives on Highway 32 in Newport was arrested Thursday, June 11, and charged with theft under $500, possession of alcohol by a minor, and possession of Schedule II. The mother of the Cosby High School student was present when he was stopped by a Walmart Loss Prevention officer for stealing a USB connector cable worth $18.88, according to a report by Sgt. Donna Hopkins. The juvenile had an aspirin bottle in his possession with 24 non-aspirin pills, including some he admitted taking from his mother's prescription bottle, according to Hopkins' report. The juvenile also allegedly had a partially empty 50 ml. bottle of vodka in his pocket. The mother was given juvenile petitions for her son. A court date was set for July 2.

Theft of medication alleged
Kristin Holder, 26, of Bucks Way, in Del Rio, stated that sometime between Tuesday, June 2, and Tuesday, June 9, when she took her medicine, she noticed she had only 17 pills left in a pill bottle, instead of 40 pills that should have been there, according to a report by Patrolman Jason Hensley.

Fuses from breaker box reported stolen
James Ellison, 21, of 138 Mountain View St., in Newport, alleged on Thursday, June 11, that sometime during the previous night an individual went to his residence that he rents and stole the fuses from his breaker box. The fuses were valued at $20.

Child abuse incident alleged
A five-year-old who resides on Myers Circle was allegedly abused physically by his father when he stayed with him sometime between Saturday, June 6, and Monday, June 8. When the child was asked by police officers about scratch marks on his right arm, he allegedly said, "Daddy grabbed my arm." The mother was advised of her rights to speak with a judge about custody issues if she felt there was neglect or abuse of the child, and with the Department of Children Services, according to a Newport Police Department report.

Theft of medication at laundromat alleged
Jessica L. Webb, of College Street, in Newport, said around midnight at the Newport Laundromat, on Tuesday, June 9, she left her pocketbook with her laundry inside the Laundromat and went to her car. When she returned, she found her purse open, and was missing $25 and medications worth $78.93, according to a report by Patrolman Allen Stump. Webb alleged that four males were in the laundromat while she went outside. Two allegedly told Stump that they did not see anyone around her purse.

Counterfeit bill at Hardee's
When a woman used a $20 bill to purchase food at Hardee's of Newport at 816 Cosby Highway on Tuesday, June 11, a counterfeit check pen confirmed the bill was a counterfeit. The Hartford woman, 55, said she gets through the mail a money donation every month from an unknown person or persons, according to a report by Lt. Terry Lawson.

House, vehicles spray-painted red
Candie Brown, 25, of 148 Robinson St., in Newport, said that on Wednesday, June 10, at 7 a.m., she discovered her house and two vehicles in her driveway had been spray-painted red, according to a report by Patrolman Donna Hopkins. The officer noted in her report that she noticed red spray paint across the front of the house and continuous all the way around to the back of the house, including the porch. Hopkins also wrote that she noticed two vehicles had been spray-painted all the way around.

Man's children allegedly threatened
Michael Rivera, 34, of 609 Blue Ridge Road, in Newport, told Patrolman Donna Hopkins that he filed a complaint at work on an individual who allegedly told Rivera's children he was going to drown them. Rivera said he left his residence the morning of Wednesday, June 30, and saw the individual parked on the side of Smith Street at the Newport City Park. Rivera said he reported the presence of the individual near his home to police out of concern about the individual's previous threats to harm his children, the report said.

Vandalism reported
Joyce Ball, 49, of 228 Senior Way, in Newport, said that around midnight on Wednesday, June 10, she noticed a note stuck to her car with pink fingernail polish, according to a report by Patrolman Allen Stump. Ball said that when she pulled the note off of her car, it peeled a spot of paint off the vehicle's door. Ball allegedly identified the author of the note who wrote that she was mad because Ball didn't give a pet bird to the author's daughter.

Theft under $500 leads to arrest
Krystal R. Holton, 20, of 234 Deer Foot Road, in Cosby, was allegedly observed on Thursday, June 11, by Walmart Loss Prevention officers concealing a bottle of Mucinex DM worth $21.56 in her purse. The incident was allegedly recorded on video, according to arresting officer Patrolman Matthew Elliott.

Cash register at Waffle House allegedly comes up short
Sandra Messer of the Waffle House, at 1016 Cosby Highway, in Newport, said that on Wednesday, June 10, the cash register drawer came up short $79 at the end of a shift, according to a report by Patrolman Donald Conkley. Messer allegedly said she would review videotapes at a later date to determine who took the money.

Alleged shoplifting of Hoover carpet cleaner and dish set
Two people with the same Kentucky address were arrested at Walmart within a short span of time. Jessica Lawson, 22, of 4479 Lot Mud Creek Road, in Williamsburg, Ky., was arrested and charged with theft under $500 after a Walmart Loss Prevention Officer allegedly saw her on Friday, June 12, at about 2:45 p.m., trying to leave Walmart with a Hoover carpet cleaner and a pot and pan dish set without paying for the items. A report by Patrolman William Garber listed the value of the items at $251.14.  A little over one hour later, Michael E. Holt, 34, listed with the same address, was arrested at the same store and charged with criminal trespassing, according to a report by Patrolman Billy Woody. A Walmart Loss Prevention Officer allegedly told Woody that Holt had been in the store after he had been served a trespass notice.

Theft of medication reported
Tammy L. Holt, 45, of 366 Driskill Circle, in Newport, told Patrolman William Garber that on Thursday, June 11, about 1 p.m., she left her purse under the front seat of her car she parked at Walmart on the Cosby Highway. She then entered the store, and when she returned about one and one-half hours later, she found $15 in prescription medication had been taken from her purse. Nothing else was taken, according to Garber's report.

Flat screen TV allegedly stolen from business
Selina Haney, 30, of White Oak Avenue, told police on Friday, June 12, that sometime during the previous night, someone stole a Sanyo 27-inch flat screen TV worth $499.99 from New Prospect Market & Deli, where Haney works. Haney reportedly told Patrolman David R. Smith that there were no signs of forced entry and that the building was found locked after the TV was stolen. Haney allegedly said there are only two keys to the building, and she has one of them.

Hit-and-run accident in Walmart parking lot
On Friday, June 12, at around 10:30 p.m., a red Nissan single cab truck was allegedly backing out of a parking space at Walmart and hit the back end of an unattended 2007 Chevrolet SK3 pickup truck owned by David Allen Ramsey, 31, of 111 Shadow Way, in Del Rio, according to a witness. The witness allegedly told Patrolman Amy Elswick that the Nissan truck that fled the scene had a chrome tool box in the  rear, a tag with a John Deere emblem on the front, and was driven by a white male in his 20s.
