Medication missing
Floyd Mooneyham, 47, of Hartford Road, told Cocke County Deputy Sheriff Randall Hartsell that on Thursday, May 28, when he arrived home to give a relative his medication, the medication was gone. A suspect denied taking the medication. Mooneyham said he had just recently gotten his relative's prescriptions for him. The value of the medication is estimated at $490.

Woman gets three charges and is arrested
Melanie Buttry, 28, of 1821 Junior Williams, in Dandridge, was arrested Thursday, May 28, and charged with open container of alcohol, simple possession of marijuana, and public intoxication, according to a report by St. Armando Fontes of the Cocke County Sheriff's Department. Buttry was allegedly in a one-vehicle accident on Woodson Road in a 2002 Ford and "slightly intoxicated" when Fontes arrived on the scene. Two marijuana roaches were found in the vehicle. Buttry said she drank a Sparks beer. The can was still in the vehicle with a small amount of alcohol in it, according to Fontes' report.

Vehicle reported stolen is found
Ricky McGaha, Jr., 21, of 3805 Lindsey Gap Road, was returned a Chevy Blazer S-10 vehicle on Thursday, May 28, that McGaha had allegedly reported stolen earlier the same day, according to a report by Cocke County Deputy Sheriff Robert Thornton.

Laptop computer reported stolen
Misty L. Sane, 30, of 1420 Ponderosa Road, told Cocke County Deputy Sheriff Joseph Owings that on Monday, June 1, while she was gone from the house, someone stole a laptop computer worth an estimated $380.

Vehicle seized as result of 3rd DUI
Bradford D. Sheaver, 39, of 1370 Highway 321, in Parrottsville, was stopped in a 1982 Chevrolet S-10 around 10 p.m. on Monday, June 1, when Sgt. Armando Fontes of the Cocke County Sheriff's Department allegedly spotted Sheaver's vehicle headed north on North Street with parking lights on, but not the headlights. He performed poorly on roadside sobriety tests and said he had drunk six beers over a four-hour period earlier in the day. Sheaver reportedly had no insurance and two prior DUI's, on Oct. 28, 2006, and Dec. 5, 2008. He was arrested and charged with 3rd offense DUI, open container of alcohol, violation of the Tennessee light law, financial responsibility, and driving while on a suspended license.

Citation for alleged assault
Della A. Morgan, 35, of Terrace Way, in Newport, was cited Tuesday, June 2, with assault, according to a report by Det. Bryan Murr of the Cocke County Sheriff's Department. The assault allegedly occurred on June 1 at the Cocke Estates in Newport.

Public intoxication charge and arrest
Nesbitt Jones, 51, was arrested Monday, June 1, and charged with public intoxication, according to a report by Randall Hartsell. Jones was allegedly a passenger in a 1982 Chevy S-10 pickup truck who was "unsteady on his feet, had slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, and a smell of alcohol about his person," according to Hartsell's report.

Drivers in two-car accident dispute the facts
Jeremy Llewellyn, 19, of 1781 Old 15th Road, in Del Rio, told Sgt. Tony Whitten of the Cocke County Sheriff's Department that he was driving a 2000 Ford around a curve on Big Creek Road on Tuesday, June 2, when a truck going in the opposite direction got in Llewellyn's lane and struck his Ford. Charles R. Eiby, 56, of 175 City View Drive, in Newport, told Whitten that he was driving a 2004 Ford F-35 pickup truck when Llewellyn's vehicle entered his side of the road and struck the corner of the bed on his truck.

Citation for allegedly leaving scene of an accident
Gary Wayne McElrath, 55, of 36 North Fork Drive, in Clyde, N.C., allegedly left the scene of an accident at North Street and East Main Street on Tuesday, June 2, at about 2 p.m. McElrath was later stopped by THP Trooper Mike Holt on the Old Cosby Highway. McElrath has an appearance in General Sessions Court of Cocke County on June 22, according to a report by Sgt. Donna Hopkins of the Newport Police Department.

DUI 2nd charge and arrest
Billy V. Norwood, 41, of 5620 South Davy Crockett Park, in Morristown, was arrested Tuesday, June 2, about 12:45 a.m. at 424 West Broadway (the Citgo gas station) after Capt. James Holt allegedly observed Norwood traveling east on Highway 25/70 and 25E in a 1985 Ford truck that left its lane of travel several times. After he was stopped, Norwood allegedly told Holt he had drunk "about four beers." He allegedly failed several sobriety tests and at the jail annex he allegedly blew a .26 on the intoximeter. He was arrested for DUI 2nd offense.

Aggravated assault charge and arrest
Joseph Serkosky, 21, of 543 Keene Circle, in Dandridge, allegedly pulled his vehicle up alongside Ginger Sane as she was driving east on Highway 25/70 near Interstate 40 on Monday, June 1, at 10:15 p.m., according to arresting officer Derek Wright.  Serkosky allegedly pointed a black 9-mm-type handgun at Sane with a laser. She said she knows him as "Joe." Serkosky was later stopped and found with an unloaded black 45-caliber handgun with a laser in the vehicle's glove box, and a loaded magazine in the center console. Serkosky and Sane allegedly talked on the phone later after the driving incident. He allegedly said an acquaintance of Sane had "ripped him off" and that Sane "would pay for it."

 

 

Police

Allegedly driving on revoked license
Theodore ("Teddy") M. Campbell, 44, of 647 Centerview St. Apt 8, in Newport, was arrested for driving on a revoked license, 2nd offense, on Tuesday, June 2, on North Street at Clifton Heights. Patrolman Heather Lawson wrote in a report that officers observed Campbell driving a 1992 Ford F-150 at a high rate of speed on Cosby Highway at about 8:15 p.m. When stopped, Campbell was allegedly found to be operating the vehicle with a revoked license 2nd offense. He was allegedly cited on May 19 for driving on a revoked license.

Dog bite reported
Brandon Coppock, 12, of 175 McNabb St., in Newport, told Capt. Scott Lamb that on Saturday, May 30, at about 7:25 p.m. a brown bulldog came from a yard near Coppock's home and bit him on his left calf. Animal control was contacted by police. Coppock was treated at Baptist Hospital of Cocke County and released. The owner is unknown.

Burglary alleged
Michael McCarter, 34, of Morrell Springs Road, in Newport, told Patrolman Amy Elswick that when his family left their home for the evening on Saturday, May 30, they returned to find someone had made entry to the house through an unlocked side window. Items reported stolen and their value were: Xbox ($300), Xbox 360 remote ($40), 12 Xbox games ($240), Wii game system ($249), 2 PlayStations ($200), Nintendo with charger ($250), and jewelry that included a wedding band ($1,100).

Phone harassment alleged
Mary Campbell, 67, of Center View Street, in Newport, told Sgt. Jason Smith on Wednesday, June 3, that an individual has been calling her "all hours of the night" for two weeks, using profanity towards her and hanging up. Smith saw on Campbell's caller ID that there had been several calls from the same number with the individual's name. When Smith contacted the individual, he advised him to not make further contact with Campbell.

Breaking and entering/theft under $1,000
David Proffitt, 64, of Cliffwood Drive, in Newport, told Patrolman Travis Gorrell that on Monday, June 1, he returned home and noticed a shotgun and .38 caliber pistol were missing. The suspect Proffitt named allegedly told Gorrell that he took the two items and sold them to an individual for $60.

Gas reported stolen from vehicle
Brooke Hatcher, of Lamaster Street, in Newport, told the Newport Police Department that on the night of Thursday, May 28, or the early morning of the next day, someone took about one-half tank of gas from her 1999 Dodge Neon, leaving the gas tank empty. The gas was valued at $10.

Harassment and assault alleged
Nancy Denton, 50, told Patrolman Derek Wright that an acquaintance started harassing her at a ball game at Newport Grammar School on Monday, June 1, at about 6:45 p.m. The person allegedly insulted Denton's husband and she said that she in return slapped the acquaintance in the face. Denton said the acquaintance then hit her several times in the face. Wright wrote that Denton had visible injuries to her face. The acquaintance had allegedly harassed Denton several times on previous occasions.

Railroad crossing gate broken off
Gary W. McElrath, 55, of Clyde, N.C., was allegedly driving a 1989 Kenworth on Tuesday, June 2, at 1:50 p.m. and stopped at a railroad crossing until the arm went completely up, according to a report by Patrolman Travis Gorrell. McElrath then allegedly started to cross the tracks and the arm came down on his truck, causing the arm to break off, according to two witnesses.
