Arrest in Cosby
Jenny W. Laws, 35, of Gatlinburg, was arrested Wednesday,
May 27, and charged with 1st offense DUI, disorderly conduct, and violation of
the Tennessee implied consent law. Sgt. Armando Fontes of the Cocke County
Sheriff's Department wrote in a report that he found Laws sitting behind the
wheel of a 2008 Kia with the engine running in a driveway at 360 Warrior Ridge
Way, in Cosby. He noticed the vehicle hit the rear of a 2002 Honda CRV owned by
Garrett Thacker. Laws allegedly had "a slight slur to her speech, had red
bloodshot eyes, had poor balance, was unsteady on her feet at times, was very
loud and argumentative, and smelled strongly of alcohol," according to the
report. She also allegedly refused a Breathalyzer test.
Aggravated burglary and theft over $500 charges
Jose Enrique, alias Jacome Corea, 40, of Pigeon Forge,
and Gerardo Antonio, alias Valle Mejia, 30, also of Pigeon Forge, were arrested
Tuesday, May 26, and charged with two counts of aggravated burglary and two
counts of theft over $500, according to a report by Det. Bryan Murr of the
Cocke County Sheriff's Department. Enrique and Antonio were charged in
connection with the burglary of two cabins on Amet Way, in Cosby, in which TVs
valued at over $500 each were taken.
Arrest on Court Avenue
Tiffany Lowery, 20, of 215 Wintergreen Way, in Cosby, was
arrested Thursday, May 28 and charged with dependency neglect of a child,
under-age consumption, and public intoxication after Sgt. Armando Fontes was
notified that a blue Subaru was allegedly chasing a red truck on Highway 160.
The caller in the truck was told to go to the county courthouse and meet
officers. Both vehicles pulled in and it was determined that Lowery was a
passenger in a truck with her two-month-old son. Both Lowery and Jonathan Hill,
the father of the child who was a passenger in the Subaru, had allegedly been
drinking and were fighting over the child. Officers took custody of the child
and arrested the mother "who was obviously intoxicated," according to
Fontes's report.
Break-in and theft
Kelley Spence, 33, of 4204 Lindsey Gap Road, in Cosby,
was allegedly asleep on Sunday, May 24, when the daughter of a woman who
allegedly owns the house came in to the house and took all of Spence's clothes,
pocketbooks, and other belongings, which were valued at $5,500. Two cell
phones, some of Spence's clothes, and pocketbooks were recovered the woman who
allegedly carried out the break-in, according to a report by Cocke County
Deputy Sheriff Robert Thornton.
Police
Two counts of vandalism in graffiti incident
David Olienyk, 35, of Fort Smith, Ark., was arrested and
charged with two counts of vandalism on Wednesday, May 27, around 10:20 p.m.
after he allegedly spray-painted the side of the National Bank of Tennessee on
Cosby Highway and the front of a Stop & Go Market with the words:
"Coward/David Mustaine - a parasite of children." A witness allegedly
witnessed he spray-paint the graffiti. Patrolman Derek Wright and Patrolman
Matthew Elliott wrote in a report that Olieynk was seen walking near KFC on the
Cosby Highway. A pat-down allegedly revealed a black spray can in his
waistband.
Two-vehicle accident on Cosby Highway
Ashley L. Parker, 25, of 631 Scott Ellis Way, in Kodak,
Tenn., was driving a 2009 Nissan Altima north on the Cosby Highway when Jack H.
Boyle, of 310 Joe Reed Road, in Bybee, was driving a 1991 Honda Accord in the
same direction, according to a report by Patrolman Justin Vinson. Boyle
allegedly applied the brakes on his Honda Accord to turn into Hardee's
Restaurant and the Nissan Altima struck the vehicle in the rear bumper.
Burglary of house alleged
Brandy Timmons, 26, of 708 Wartford Road, in Newport,
told Patrolman Matthew Elliott that on Wednesday, May 27, between 5 p.m. and
7:45 p.m., when she returned home, she discovered someone had entered her home
and ransacked her moving boxes. Reported missing were $500 in cash and a
Playstation 2 console.
Burglary of vehicle near Walmart
April Blazer, 18, of 116 Apple Valley Way, in Newport,
told Patrolman Ricky Parton that on Monday, May 25, around 8:30 p.m., she met
some friends beside Walmart, parked her 1997 Honda Civic and got in another
vehicle with the friends and rode around for a few minutes. When she returned
to her vehicle, she allegedly saw a passenger side door window broken out, but
nothing missing from the Honda Civic. The window was valued at $200.
Medication reported stolen
Donald Roe, 54, of Myers Circle, in Newport, told
Patrolman Donald Coakley that he returned home on Wednesday, May 27 to discover
the back window to his apartment knocked out and medication missing from a lock
box. Police allegedly saw no signs of forced entry on the lock box. The window
was valued at $40 and the medication was valued at $20.
Identity theft suspected
Rosie Buckner, 53, of Tedder Drive, in Newport, told
Patrolman Donna Hopkins that when she went to Newport Rent-a-Center on Tuesday,
May 26 and had a credit check done, it allegedly revealed a bad check from
Wachovia Bank had been written on Nov. 15, 2008 for $794 at Urgent Cash in
Bridgeport, Ohio. Buckner told Hopkins she had never been in Ohio and had not
had a checking account for several years. The Rent-a-Center gave Buckner a copy
of the information they received.
