Arrest and DUI 1st charge
Off-duty officer Steve Johnson allegedly found Angie M. Bailey, 37, of 248 Midnight Way, in Parrottsville, on Thursday, May 14, passed out behind the steering wheel of a Ford Taurus with the keys in the ignition on East Highway 25/70. Bailey reportedly failed all field sobriety tests, was "very unsteady on her feet, (had) slurred speech, and bloodshot eyes." Bailey also said she had been taking sleeping pills after she was read her Miranda rights, according to a report by Cocke County Deputy Sheriffs Joseph Owings and Randall Hartsell.

Failure to appear alleged
David C. Livingston, 28, of 670 Myers Circle, in Newport, was arrested Friday, May 15, at the Cocke County Child Support Courtroom and charged with a failure to appear issued out of the same court, according to Cocke County Deputy Sheriff Brian Holt. Livingston had allegedly failed to report on Feb. 10.

Arrest at Citgo gas station
Jeremy Grooms, 37, of 4595 Bosom Way, in Cosby, was arrested Friday, May 15, at the 411 Citgo and charged with public intoxication, disorderly conduct and an open container violation, according to a report by Cocke County Deputy Sheriff Joseph Owings. Grooms was allegedly "highly intoxicated" and had a 24-ounce Icehouse beer open in the passenger seat of a car. Grooms alleged cursed at and threatened officers and spit "all over" the cage in the back seat of a cruiser on the way to jail. He was yelling and screaming at officers, the report stated.

May arrested on Jefferson City warrant
Nicholas D. Boswell, 42, of 435 North St., in Newport, was arrested Tuesday, May 12, at his residence on an arrest warrant issued by the Jefferson City Police Department. Boswell was transported to the Cocke County/Jefferson County line and handed over to a Jefferson City police officer, according to a report by Cocke County Deputy Brian Holt.

Accident on Dark Hollow Road
J. B. Miller, 59, of 1982 Brisk Way, in Cosby, was reportedly driving a 1985 BMW south on Dark Hollow Road on Friday, May 15, around 7 a.m. when his vehicle skidded on mud allegedly washed onto the road. The BMW slid to the left off the road, traveled about 50 feet, crossed 2202 Dark Hollow Road, tore about 120 feet of a chain link fence and then 400 feet in a field before stopping at a trailer off of Little Hollow Way, according to a report by Sgt. Daniel Conard of the Cocke County Deputy Sheriff's Department.

Driver allegedly swerves into ditch to avoid hitting dog
Amanda R. Stuart, 26, of 1938 Brooks Cemetery Road, in Newport, allegedly swerved her 2000 Honda on Sunday, May 10, on Friendship Road around 3:45 p.m. to avoid hitting a dog, and ran the vehicle into a ditch, according to a report by Sgt. Tony Whitten of the Cocke County Deputy Sheriff's Department.

Two-vehicle accident
Charles F. Webb, 62, of 1365 Green Acres Drive, in Newport, was headed west on Green Acres Drive on Friday, May 15, about 8:10 a.m. in a 2001 GMC Sierra when Derek B. Ailor, 18, of 310 Oak Hammock Way, in Parrottsville, backed out of the private drive of 1220 Green Acres Drive in a 1991 Honda Accord, colliding with the passenger side of the GMC Sierra, according to a report by Cocke County Deputy Sheriff Brian Holt.

Accident on Highway 160
Sandra D. Evans, 43, of 170 Highway 160, in Newport, was traveling south on Highway 160 in a 1996 GMC Jimmy on Saturday, May 9, around 3 p.m. when a newer model red Ford pickup truck with a chrome tool box traveling in the opposite direction allegedly crossed the center line, forcing Evans off the road's embankment, according to a report by Cocke County deputy Sheriff Tony Bailey. The driver of the Ford truck did not stop. Evans' vehicle received minor damage. She was not hurt.

Deer allegedly runs onto Interstate 40
Deidra D. Miller, 28, of 375 Smith St., in Newport told Cocke County Deputy Sheriff David Parton that on Monday, May 11, around 6:30 a.m., she was traveling west on Interstate 40 at the 438 milemarker when a deer traveled into her lane and struck the right rear quarter panel on her 2002 Honda.

Medication reportedly stolen
Iloy Kyker, 57, of Epley Road, in Newport, told a Newport Police Department officer that on Friday, May 8, he left his home and then returned to find 46 pills had been stolen.

Burglary alleged on Alpha Road
Jo Ann Wallin, 43, of Alpha Road, in Newport, told Sgt. Eric Rinehart that on Monday, May 11, between 6 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., someone burglarized her house by breaking the glass on her front door and stealing the following: a Symphonic DVD player worth $40, a Hewlett-Packard computer printer worth $200, and a cedar chest with baby pictures and the words, "I love you," engraved on it, worth $150. Damage to the front door was estimated at $800.

Vandalism of car alleged
Carlos P. Guerrero, 30, of 1502 Taft St., in Morristown, told Cocke County Deputy Sheriff Alton Cureton that sometime during the night of Tuesday, May 5, someone broke the rear window of his 1994 Chevrolet Cavalier. Guerrero said he did not know how it was broken.

Theft reported
Melissa D. Maddox, 34, of Bruner Grove Road, in Bybee, told the Cocke County Sheriff's Department that on or about Sunday, May 10, someone removed a license plate from her car.

Harassment alleged
Cheryle Lynn Stout, 50, of 3551 Stout Hollow Road, in Hartford, told Cocke County Deputy Sheriff Joseph Owings that on Tuesday, May 12, and Wednesday, May 13, an individual had neared her property and harassed her by trying to get her attention. Stout allegedly showed Owings a letter from the individual that threatened Stout and her husband.

Domestic assault alleged
A woman on Big Creek Road, in Hartford, told Cocke County Deputy Sheriff Jason Oury that she was asleep in her bed on Wednesday, May 13, when an argument with her husband started and he "jerked her out of the bed by her shirt, slung her around the room, and caused her to fall into a door frame," Oury's report said. Her husband allegedly left with an individual, returned, and then insults were exchanged between the three subjects. The wife said she took a knife and punctured the two front tires of a vehicle her husband had originally driven to their residence. The alleged victim complained of elbow pain, and Oury observed a bruise on her left back, a scratch and slight bruise on her left temple, a bruise on her right forearm, and a cut on one of her hands.

Vehicle recovered, but burned
Drury Ramsey, owner of Newport Raceway and Auto Parts on Industrial Road, told Det. John Carrell of the Cocke County Sheriff's Department that he found on Thursday, May 14, a towed GMC Yukon totally burned and heavily damaged. The vehicle was reported stolen to the Cocke County Sheriff's Department on July 7.

 








Police

Acoustic guitar allegedly stolen
J. W. Dorsey, 70, of Louellen, in Newport, said he had recently allowed an individual to live with him. That person became friends with another individual. Dorsey named two suspects he believes may have stolen the guitar from his bedroom on Wednesday, May 13, or Thursday, May 14, according to a report at the Newport Police Department.

Accident in Walmart parking lot
Lorria A. Rollins, 47, of 740 Arbor Road, in Parrottsville was in a 1996 Pontiac Grand Prix traveling down a parking lot aisle at Walmart on Friday, May 15, about 2:15 p.m. when Howell J. Wright, 77, of 124 Underwood Way, in Newport, attempted to back out of a parking spot with a 1987 Chevrolet Blazer and struck the Pontiac in the side, according to a report by Patrolman David Smith.

Accident allegedly occurred in the rain
Ruble Buchner, 62, of 502 Freeman Ave., in Newport, was driving a 1999 Dodge Caravan van in the parking lot of Food City East, at 416 Eastern Plaza, on Thursday, May 14, about 10:30 p.m. during a heavy downpour of rain when he struck the grocery cart stall of the grocery store with the front passenger side of his vehicle. Buchner told Patrolman William Garber that because of the rain, he did not notice the damage to his vehicle until the next day.

Arrest Saturday morning
Angie M. Bailey, 37, of 248 Midnight Way, in Newport, was arrested about 8 a.m. on Saturday, May 16, after police responded to a call of a female staggering in and out of traffic, according to a report by Patrolman David Woody. Upon the arrival of police, Bailey was seen walking on a sidewalk at the intersection of North Street and Cody Street. Officers allegedly found a hand-rolled cigarette believed to be marijuana "on her person". Bailey was charged with resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, and simple possession of a Schedule VI drug.
