NEWPORT--The Democratic and Republican nominees
for the First District Congressional seat will debate at 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct.
23, in the Newport Grammar School auditorium.
Republican nominee Dr. Phil Roe, of Johnson City, and
Democratic nominee Rob Russell, of Kingsport, will respond to questions
provided by the moderator, Dr. Lonnie Butler.
"We are fortunate to have this type of event
coming to our town, and I hope the community will come out and support this
event," said Linda Branam.
"This is an excellent opportunity to hear the
candidates' stands on the issues, and to get to know the candidates
better," she added.
The three Independent candidates, Joel Goodman and
T.K. Owens, both of Johnson City, and James Reeves, of Boones Creek, will not
be participating in the debate.
All five candidates participated in a debate,
sponsored by the League of Women Voters, at the Niswonger Performing Arts
Center in Greeneville on Tuesday, Oct. 7.
