Friday, Dep. Randall Hartsell filled out an incident
report made by Margaret Johnson, no age given, Appleseed Way, concerning a dog
biting her 11-year-old son. According to the report, Johnson stated her son was
walking through their neighbor’s yard to get on the school bus when a dog bit
him between his ankle and knee. Johnson told Hartsell this is the second time her
son has been bitten.
$2,500 in wiring stolen from home
Friday, Dep. Steve Johnson filled out an incident
report made by Ray Massey, 309 Cosby Highway, concerning the vandalism of a
home located at 3915 Cosby Highway that is owned by Donna Costa, 62, 13 Star
Wheel Lane, Hilton Head Island, S.C. According to the report, the home had been
broken into between Wednesday and Friday. The only thing reported stolen from
the home was $2,500 in wiring.
Van’s window shot out
Friday, Dep. Steve Johnson filled out an incident
report made by Debbie Rayneri, 52, 2203 Dark Hollow Road, concerning the
vandalism of her 1994 Dodge van. According to the report, Rayneri stated she
left her home around 6 p.m. and returned at 8 p.m. A neighbor reportedly came
to her home and said Rayneri’s van’s window was shattered. The rear hatchback
window of the van appeared to have been shot. The estimated value of the
shattered window is $500.
Telephone cable vandalized
Friday, Dep. Alton Cureton filled out an offense
report made by the AT&T Company concerning a telephone cable that had been
cut on the Old Fifteenth Road in Del Rio. The estimated cost of the cut line is
$1,500.
Theft, extortion charges
Friday, Dep. David Parton arrested Shannon Lee Baker,
28, 145 Columbia Way, Parrottsville, on charges of theft over $10,000 and
extortion.
Police
Durango used for punching bag
Friday, Lt. Ronnie Landers filled out an incident
report made by Ashley Hayes, 22, 174 Fair St., Newport, concerning the
vandalism of her 1999 Dodge Durango. According to the report, Hayes stated she
was at River Ridge Apartments picking up her children from their father who
allegedly punched and kicked her vehicle. The estimated cost of the damaged
Durango is $2,500.
Public intoxication charges
Friday, Patrolman Donald Coakley arrested Ralph J.
Talton, 80, 1675 Winter Road, Parrottsville, on charges of public intoxication.
Violation of probation charges
Friday, Patrolman Ricky Parton arrested Kim Hopkins,
39, 675 City View Drive, Newport, on charges of violation of probation.
Debit card missing, $400 spent
Thursday, Patrolwoman Donna Hopkins filled out an
incident report made by Kelly Saylor, 18, 315 Dyke St., Newport, concerning the
theft of her debit card. According to the report, Saylor told Hopkins she noticed
her debit card was missing. She was unable to say how long it had been missing
but contacted her bank where she was informed the card had been used to make
$400 worth of purchases at Golden Dynasty, McDonald’s and Murphy Gas. Saylor
was advised to obtain a bank statement. No suspect information is available at
this time.
Accord and Escape collide
Friday, Lt. Ronnie Landers was dispatched to a
two-vehicle accident in row No. 8 of the Wal-Mart parking lot. According to the
report, Susan Gass, 50, 1820 Indian Creek Road, Dandridge and Allison Jo
Messer, 37, 123 Brookstone Road, Parrottsville, were both backing their
vehicles from opposite sides of the aisle when they collided. Gass’s 2005 Ford
Escape and Messer’s 2008 Honda Accord were both struck. Messer told Landers she
didn’t back across the centerline of the aisle. Both drivers said they didn’t
see one another.
Caravan struck by Saturn
Friday, Patrolman Derek Wright was dispatched to a
two-vehicle accident on Broadway. According to the report, Megan B. Toney, 22,
4057 Willow Way, Morristown, was traveling west on Highway 25/70 in a 2002
Saturn SL1 when he struck the rear of a 1992 Dodge Caravan driven by Richard E.
Houvener Jr., 57, 335 Alex St., Newport.
Mirror clips panel
Friday, Patrolman Derek Wright was dispatched to a
two-vehicle accident on West Highway 25/70. According to the report, Joan S.
Rutherford, 73, 1711 E. Highway 25/70, Dandridge, was turning her 1997 Dodge
Intrepid left toward Fred’s Discount while Patricia B. Moore, 64, 3166 Big Creek
Road, Hartford, was turning her 2006 Chevrolet Impala toward the Krystal’s
parking lot. Rutherford’s mirror struck the right rear quarter-panel of Moore’s
vehicle.
Intrepid rear-ended
Friday, Patrolman David Smith was dispatched to a
two-vehicle accident on the Cosby Highway. According to the report, Kathy E.
Carter, 48, 1272 Sweetwater Road, Newport, stopped the 2002 Dodge Intrepid she
was driving for a red traffic light near the intersection of Riverview Street.
Marilyn M. France, 33, 1650 Appian Way Road, Bybee, was traveling the same
direction in her 2008 Nissan Sentra and failed to stop in time to avoid
striking the rear of Carter’s vehicle.
Three-vehicle collision
Friday, Sgt. Scott Lamb was dispatched to a
three-vehicle pile up at the junction of North and Robinson Streets. According
to the report, Jared L. Manning, 25, 117 Country View Way, Newport, was
traveling south on North Street when he stopped his 1984 Dodge Ram for traffic.
Bobbie L. Price, 16, 2125 Parrottsville, traveling behind Manning in her 2002
Ford Taurus, slowed her vehicle also. As Price was slowing for Manning, the
rear of her Taurus was struck by a 2001 Dodge driven by Matthew G. Winter, 18,
1040 Old Greeneville Highway, Parrottsville. Price’s vehicle was pushed by
Winter’s into the rear of Manning’s Dodge.
