Meds reported stolen off Epley Road
Tuesday, Dep. Brian Holt filled out an offense report
made by Martha Click, 70, 466 Epley Road, Newport, concerning the theft of
medication from her residence. According to the repot, Click stated that
sometime between 7 p.m. Saturday and 7 p.m. Sunday, someone stole medication
from her home. Click told Holt she had out-of-state visitors at her home over
the weekend and believes one of them took the medication. The estimated value
of the stolen medication is $20.50.
$2,900 charged to credit card
Tuesday, Dep. Brian Holt filled out an offense report
made by Billy H. Masoner, 55, 855 Carson Springs Road, Newport, concerning
identity theft. According to the report, Masoner stated someone has opened up a
Platinum Mastercard account using his name and address. The credit card has
reportedly been used to make $2,900 in purchases unwanted by the victim.
Masoner stated he has called the credit card company to cancel the account.
Accord driver loses control
Tuesday, Dep. Randall Hartsell was dispatched to a
one-vehicle accident off east Highway 25/70. According to the report, William
Gerald Fox, 16, 145 Summer House Hollow Road, Del Rio, was traveling west in a
1996 Honda Accord when the vehicle’s passenger side dipped off the right side
of the road. Fox reportedly overcorrected the Accord causing it to travel off
the right side of the roadway and run through a fence.
Public intoxication charges
Tuesday, Dep. C.J. Ball responded to a call on Trail
Hollow Road concerning a reportedly irate man who was reportedly knocking on an
elderly couple’s door. When deputies arrived, Edward C. Statzer, 29, Trail
Hollow Road, ran toward the deputies’ patrol car. After speaking with Statzer,
Ball noticed the man smelled strongly of alcohol, had bloodshot eyes and was
unsteady on his feet. Statzer reportedly became uncooperative after being taken
into custody. According to the report, after Statzer was arrested on charges of
public intoxication, he threatened to kick out the windows of Ball’s cruiser if
he wasn’t released and taken home.
Violation of community corrections
Tuesday, Dep. Randall Hartsell arrested Rhonda Carr,
46, 1628 Edwina-Bridgeport Road, on charges of violation of community
corrections out of Circuit Court.
Police
Justice prevails
Tuesday, Patrolman Derek Wright and Sgt. Scott Lamb
were called to Wal-Mart on a report concerning an alleged shoplifter. According
to the report, Wal-Mart loss-prevention officer Doug Justice reportedly
witnessed Ashley R. Daniels, 18, 508 Sorghum Way, Newport, take a pair of
shoes, valued at $25, and swap them out of a box before swiping a baseball cap,
valued at $9.97. Daniels then left the store. Wright and Lamb arrested Daniels
on a charge of theft under $500.
Reefer, handgun seized, alleged dealer arrested
Tuesday, Patrolman Justin Vinson and Patrolman Ricky
Parton received a report of marijuana being sold out of Apartment No. 204,
Nutmeg St., Newprot. Upon arrival, police knocked on the front door of the
residence, which was opened by Martin B. Delancey, 32, same address. The lessee
of the complex allowed police to enter the apartment. When asked if any drugs were
in the house, Delancey told Vinson and Parton there was marijuana under his
couch, kitchen cabinet and jacket, which was located in his bedroom closet.
Police found marijuana, which was packaged and ready for resale. Approximately
$123 was found with the packaged marijuana. A police K9 was brought in and
sniffed out related drug paraphernalia-a bong, marijuana seeds, rolling papers
and clamps. Bullets were also found by police and Delancey told the patrolmen
that a 9 mm handgun was in the corner of the upper bedrail in the apartment’s
master bedroom bed. Vinson and Parton found a total of 5.64 ounces of marijuana
in the apartment: .24 ounces under the couch, 1.03 ounces in a white container
located in the kitchen and 4.37 ounces in a jacket inside the master bedroom
closet. Delancey was arrested on charges of possession of schedule VI drugs in
excess of .5 ounces with the intent to sell and possession of drug
paraphernalia.
Theft reported
Tuesday, Patrolman Justin Vinson responded to a call
made by Lisa Hall, 22, 238 Laramie Circle, Newport, concerning the theft of a
Sanyo 27” TV, Phillips DVD/VCR player and 25 DVDs from her residence. According
to the report, Hall told police she left Monday evening and returned home
Tuesday to find the above items missing. When police investigated the theft,
they discovered the suspect(s) entered the residence through the back window of
the home (no forced entry) and left through the back door with the items. The
estimated value of the stolen items is $700.
Monetary value catalyst for theft
Tuesday, Patrolman Ricky Parton was dispatched to
Performance Exhaust to fill out an incident report made by Alissa Jones, 39,
105 Big B Way, Newport, concerning the theft of her 1999 Chevrolet Ventura’s
catalytic converter. Upon arrival, Parton spoke with Jones who stated she was
at work at Baptist Hospital of Cocke County and left around 2:50 p.m. to pick
up her children from school. When Jones started her van, she noticed it was
loud and had a strong odor of gasoline. Jones drove the vehicle to Performance
Exhaust where she was informed that her vehicle’s catalytic converter had been
stolen. The owner of the business told Parton the estimated value of the
missing converter is $1,500.
Home ransacked
Monday, Patrolman Stephen Higginbotham responded to a
call made by Ronnie Beason, no age given, 125 Lakeview St., Newport, concerning
the ransacking of his home. Upon arrival, Higginbotham spoke with Beason who
stated he believes a black female entered his home and ransacked it. Beason showed
Higginbotham where clothing had been thrown around his room and pictures taken
off the wall. In addition, several UT memorabilia items were strewn around the
house. Beason also showed Higginbotham a quick claims deed that had been ripped
into pieces the female was alleged to sign as part of a divorce. Beason stated
the two have been divorced since December and the female gave up her rights to
the property but still has keys to the residence. Beason told Higginbotham he
is constantly harassed by the suspect and is afraid of what she may do next.
Civic strikes Hyundai
Tuesday, Patrolman David Smith was dispatched to a
two-vehicle accident on the Cosby Highway. According to the report, both Devin
M. Kolar, 17, 1541 Rustic Drive, Newport, driving a 1997 Honda Civic and Lane
A. Lewis, 58, 1841 Regency Drive, Hartsville, S.C., driving a 2008 Hyundai
Elantra, were traveling northbound on the Cosby Highway. When Lewis slowed the
Elantra for stopped traffic, Kolar struck the rear of the vehicle with his
Civic.
Hit-and-run in Fred’s parking lot
Tuesday, Patrolwoman Heather Lawson was dispatched to
a hit-and-run accident in the Fred’s parking lot. According to the report,
Donna f. Nash, no age given, 203 Keystone Drive, Newport, parked her 2001
Hyundai Tiburon at the Fred’s parking lot and went inside the store for 10 to
15 minutes. When Nash returned to her vehicle, she noticed both the
driver’s-side door and rear panel had been struck. Nash was unable to describe
the vehicle parked next to hers.
