$500 in quarters stolen from home
Saturday, Dep. C.J. Ball responded to a call made by Kenneth Norton, 50, 1900 Hummingbird Way, Newport, concerning the theft of $500 in quarters plus damage to his home. According to the report, Norton stated someone entered his home by shattering a window at the back of the house before damaging his bedroom door. Ball reported the suspect cut themselves because a blood trail was left through the home. The suspect reportedly used a pillow cover in the home to stash the stolen quarters. The suspect reportedly vandalized two bedrooms and left the residence through a side-door in the garage. The suspect reportedly left just as a resident was entering the home’s front door. Norton reported a man, possibly a relative, called him at 6:18 p.m. and told him he needed his toolbox. However, Norton told the man he wasn’t at home. A shirt found at the scene, reportedly smocked with blood, was taken into evidence by Ball to be sent to a crime lab in DNA tests are needed. The scene was photographed. The estimated value of the stolen quarters plus the cost of the damaged and vandalized home is $1,400. Detective Robert Caldwell is currently in charges of the case.

Window damaged
Monday, Dep. Joseph Owings was dispatched to 2194 Stone View Way, Cosby, on a call made by Shala Renee Gray, 31, same address, concerning the vandalism of her home. According to the report, Gray stated she left her home around 3:30 p.m. and returned around 4 p.m. to find the window in the back door of her home was damaged. Gray told Owings she has received several unwanted phone calls by an individual possibly linked with the vandalism. The estimated cost of the damaged door and window is $300.

Lot of work for some copper
Thursday, Dep. Hollis Emmons filled out an offense report made by Shannette Michelle Dalton, 1103 E. First North St., Morristown, concerning the theft of 40-50 feet of copper wire from a rental house at 595 Mannings Chapel Road, Parrottsville. According to the report, Dalton stated someone pried open a lock to gain entry to a crawl space underneath the house, which is reportedly under construction for renters, and took the wiring. The estimated value of the stolen copper wire is $100.

Driver blinded by headlights
Monday, Sgt. Armando Fontes was dispatched to the scene of a one-vehicle accident off Crum Hollow Road. According to the report, Ginger Joann Valentine, 18, 1900 Good Hope Road, Parrottsville, stated she was blinded by an oncoming vehicle and ran off the roadway. The 1994 Oldsmobile Cutlass Valentine was driving traveled down an eight-foot embankment, which resulted in significant front-end damage to the vehicle. Fontes’ report states three occupants suffered minor injuries.

Dodge Rammed by Wagon
Thursday, Dep. Derek Wright was dispatched to a two-vehicle accident off Highway 25/70. According to the report, Joshua W. Strange, 22, 100 Wyatt Lane, Hot Springs, N.C., was traveling north on Highway 25/70 in his 2007 Dodge Ram pickup near the intersection of Belton Avenue when a red Chevrolet truck reportedly slowed suddenly causing him to follow suit. While Strange was braking, the rear of his vehicle was struck by a 1995 Subaru Wagon driven by Kevin H. Kampka, 18, 461 Foxfire Ridge Road, Leicester, N.C.

Altima slides off Edwina-Bridgeport Road
Sunday, Dep. Derek Wright was dispatched to a one-vehicle accident off Edwina-Bridgeport Road. According to the report, Megan L. Bible, 20, 1045 Flat Top Way, Del Rio, was traveling north on Edwina-Bridgeport Road and lost control of the 1998 Nissan Altima she was driving while negotiating a curve. The vehicle slid off the road and down an embankment.

Jeep driver loses control
Saturday, Dep. C.J. Ball was dispatched to a one-vehicle accident off Edwina-Bridgeport Road. According to the report, Daniel C. Raines, 17, 542 Blueberry Way, Newport, was traveling north on Edwina-Bridgeport Road in a 1997 Jeep when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a ditch line before coming to rest facing the southbound lane.

Steering wheel locks, causes wreck
Tuesday, Sgt. Armando Fontes was dispatched to a one-vehicle accident off Highway 73. According to the report, William Ray Cody, 21, 480 Frosty Lane, Newport, was traveling south on Highway 73 when the steering wheel on his 1993 Nissan Sentra locked causing him to lose control of the vehicle and travel off the right shoulder of the road and strike a culvert. The vehicle rolled over onto its roof. Fontes was unable to determine whether a mechanical problem was to blame due to the damage the vehicle sustained in the wreck.

Ford Shaves Saturn, driver flees
Friday, Dep. Steve Johnson was dispatched to a two-vehicle accident off Glendale Road. According to the report, Kathie J. Miller, 54, 412 Carson Springs Road, Newport, was traveling south on Glendale Road in her 1998 Saturn SL2 when she spotted a 1984 Ford traveling toward her and crossing the centerline of traffic. Miller told Johnson she pulled her Saturn to the shoulder in an attempt to miss the driver but the Ford continued in her direction and swiped the side of her vehicle. The driver of the Ford did not stop. However, the driver, Robert F. Brown, 30, 131 Claiborne Drive, Newport, was later found at 3798 Shady Road. Brown stated he didn’t realize he struck Miller’s vehicle and stated his glasses were broken and he couldn’t see well. Brown was unable to provide proof of financial responsibility and was cited for leaving the scene of an accident.

Chevy damaged near lakeshore
Sunday, Sgt. David Crum filled out an accident report made by Wesley Callison, 36, Morristown, concerning damage done to his 200 Chevrolet pickup while it was parked at a Highway 25E boat ramp. According to the report, Callison stated he put his boat in the water around 1 p.m. and when he returned to his vehicle at 5 p.m., he noticed someone struck the left side of his pickup. The unidentified vehicle and driver left the scene. A red truck towing a boat may have been responsible for the accident.

Chevy kicked by horse
Sunday, Dep. Alton Cureton filled out an incident report involving a horse and a 2003 Chevrolet K1500 pickup. According to the report, Jonathan Moncier, 28, 940 Jay Fanning Road, Afton, was preparing for a horseback ride when his mount kicked a Chevrolet pickup owned by Shelia W. Adkins, 48, 910 Overview Drive, Dandridge. The incident occurred at a parking lot near the Burnett Gap horse trail, off Highway 107, Houston Valley.

Oh Deer!
Tuesday, Sgt. David Crum filled out an incident report made by Janice Gentry Barnes, 46, 2439 Green Road, Cosby, concerning an accident involving her 2003 Toyota Camry and a whitetail deer. According to the report, Barnes was traveling north on the Cosby Highway near a church when a vehicle in the southbound lane struck a deer, which then struck the driver’s-side front fender of her Camry. Barnes was reportedly able to drive her Toyota home.

Rigs’ radios rummaged
Tuesday, Sgt. Armando Fontes filled out an incident report made by Gary Ford, 55, 621 Side Road, Newport, concerning the theft and vandalism of radios from four of his diesel trucks on the property of Ford Trucking. According to the report, sometime between the hours of 6 p.m. and 5:25 a.m., someone went on Ford Trucking property and stole several CB radios. The suspects reportedly entered four trucks, which included a Kenworth, Western Star and Peterbilt semi. The suspects removed the radios from the trucks. In addition, four storage trailer padlocks were cut. Ford stated two juveniles were seen on the property recently. Deputies located the juveniles in question and conducted a consensual search of their Hartford residence but no evidence was found. The estimated value of the four radios stolen from Ford Trucking is $2,520.

Pepsi please
Tuesday, Dep. Hollis Emmons responded to a call made by Beth Freeman, 81, 2409 Denton Road, Cosby, concerning the theft of a Pepsi machine and 96 canned drinks from Freeman’s Grocery. According to the report, Freeman told Emmons that when she opened up the store Tuesday, she noticed someone had stolen a Pepsi machine from the front of the store. The thief/thieves cut the electric cord supplying power to the machine. An unknown amount of cash was also in the machine. The estimated value of the stolen machine and drinks is $1,072.

Lincoln keyed
Monday, Dep. Derrick Webb filled out an offense report made by Sheena L. Coggins, 22, 3805 Big Creek Road, Hartford, concerning the vandalism of her 2002 Lincoln LS car. According to the report, Coggins told Webb that while she was leaving the courthouse on Sunday she observed a woman walking around her vehicle with an object in her hand. Coggins reportedly shouted at the woman who looked up and fled in a dark suburban driven by a male. When Coggins got to her vehicle, she noticed it had been keyed extensively. The damage cost is estimated to be $2,500.

Wednesday, Sgt. James Holt arrested James F. Puckett, 22, 1627 Dark Hollow Road, Newport, on charges of failure to appear in General Sessions Court.
Wednesday, Patrolman Billy Woody arrested Justin L. Tucker, 19, 405 Blue Ridge Way, Newport, on charges of failure to appear out of General Sessions Court.

Shoplifter nabbed
Tuesday, Capt. Terry Stewart was called to Wal-Mart on a complaint of an alleged shoplifter. Upon arrival, Stewart spoke with Wal-Mart loss-prevention officer Doug Justice who stated he observed Cathy Surgey, 61, 275 Kandy Way, Sevierville, take two 40-pound bags of dog food, two pillow shams, one quilt, coffee, two magazines, including People; Coke, a shirt and four pair of pants without paying for them. The estimated value of the merchandise is $199.82. Surgey had previously been served with criminal trespassing at Wal-Mart. She was arrested on charges of theft under $500.

Cleaned out
Wednesday, Sgt. Jerry Shelton filled out an incident report made by Keegan R. McCarter, 28, 308 College St., Newport, concerning the theft of several personal items from his apartment. According to the report, McCarter told Shelton that in October he and his wife were having problems and while he was gone from his apartment, a white male, 50s, and another, 30s, came to his residence with two trucks and loaded his Toshiba laptop computer, 27” Sanyo TV, canister vacuum, three twin beds, three dressers, one diaper changer, 20” Sanyo flat-screen TV, Kenwood CD player, gold-plated HMI cables, tool workshop, 50 CDs, assorted toys, Christmas presents, baby crib, handmade dollhouse and clothing. The estimated value of the stolen/missing items is $4,260. McCarter told Shelton he waited to file a report because he believed his belongings would be returned.

Stolen Honda Jet Ski recovered
Tuesday, Detective Lynn Shults filled out an incident report concerning the recovery of two jet skis and their trailer from the Newport City Park. According to the report, Shults received information regarding a trailer at the city park needing to be checked. After Shults removed a tarp covering the trailer he discovered a Honda Aqua-Trax Turbo and Polaris Jet Ski that had been reported stolen to the Knoxville Police Department Oct. 1, 2005 by Knoxville resident Jason Russell.

Fourth Street home vandalized
Tuesday, Patrolman Billy Woody filled out an incident report made by Donald Russell, 53, 640 Fourth St., Newport, concerning the breaking and entering of his home. According to the report, Russell stated someone tried to break into his residence. Woody noted that the suspect(s) did not gain entry to the home. A lock, valued at $10, was damaged during the attempted break-in.

Ford struck by loose trailer tire
Tuesday, Patrolman Rick Stephenson was dispatched to a two-vehicle accident on East Main Street. According to the report, Jennifer S. Hooper, 53, 464 Sequoyah Drive, Newport, was traveling east on Main Street in her 2000 Ford Focus when a tire came loose from a trailer being towed a 1983 Chevrolet pickup driven by Delmer Lee Jackson, 51, no address given and struck the driver’s-side front fender of her vehicle. The estimated cost of the damage to Hooper’s vehicle is $350.

Lawn mower ridden away
Tuesday, Patrolman Rick Stephenson filled out an incident report made by Tommy Lillard, 61, 227 Jaybird Road, Newport, concerning the theft of his 16-and-a-half horsepower riding lawnmower and weed-trimmer from his residence. According to the report, Lillard stated he used his mower until 8 p.m. on Monday. When he came home on Tuesday, he noticed the mower, along with his weed-trimmer, was missing. Lillard said tracks from the mower were visible from his back fence and toward the road. The estimated value of the stolen mower and trimmer is $1,300.
