DEL RIO-Both Grassy Fork Volunteer firefighters and the
Cocke County Fire Department responded to a house fire at 2004 Old Fifteenth
Road, Hartford, around 4:45 a.m. Friday morning. The home was a complete loss when
the departments arrived.
According to a
report by Cocke County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Eric Rinehart, arson is
suspected in the blaze. The home's owner, Scott Daniel Smith, 39, same address,
told Rinehart that he and a relative had been in an argument two weeks ago and
the relative allegedly threatened to burn his house down.
A witness
reportedly called Smith while he was at work in Morristown and informed him his
house was ablaze. According to the witness, the relative suspected in the
alleged arson reportedly woke her up and said Smith's house was on fire.
