Rings stolen from Overlook Way

 

Friday, Dep. Randall Hartsell was dispatched to the residence of Dortha Loretta Love, 43, 442 Overlook Way, Newport, on a call concerning the theft of one diamond engagement ring plus a heart-shaped ring. According to the report, Love stated she was cleaning her rings around 2:55 p.m. Love reportedly went into her bathroom and when she returned, noticed the above-listed items were missing. The estimated value of the missing rings is $400.

 

 

Wiring stolen from Lark Road

 

Friday, Lt. Rick Laws filled out an offense report made by Bob Evans, 76, 1311 Lark Road, Newport, concerning the theft of wiring plus damage to an electrical box and a meter box from his residence. According to the report, Evans stated that sometime between Feb. 1 and April 18, someone entered his home and stole electrical wiring and damaged two electrical boxes. Evans told Laws he found no signs of forced entry. The estimated value of the stolen wiring and damaged boxes is $2,000.

Pot bust

 

Friday, Patrolwoman Amy Elswick was dispatched to the Best Western on a call concerning vandalism. According to the report, Michael Shular, no age or address provided, stated one of the hotel’s flowerpots at the front entrance was broken. The estimated value of the damaged pot is $500.

 

 

Let go!

 

Friday, Patrolman Ricky Parton observed a 2002 Volkswagen Passat driven by Jennifer Jones, 21, 211 Lethco Lane, Newport, crossing the railroad tracks at Main Street and Highway 321. Before Parton was on patrol, he read two warrants at the police department taken out against her for forgery and theft over $10,000. Parton pulled Jones over off Woodlawn Avenue and asked her to exit her vehicle. Jones reportedly refused by grabbing her vehicle’s steering wheel. Parton’s report states “officers had to pry her hands from the steering wheel.” After repeated attempts to remove Jones’ hands from the steering wheel, officers picked her up and out of the Passat. Jones was arrested shortly thereafter.

 

 

Public intoxiction charges

 

Friday, Patrolman Donald Coakley arrested Penny L. Hall, 41, 222 White Oak Ave., Newport, on charges of public intoxication, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

 

 

Violation of probation

 

Friday, Patrolwoman Heather Lawson arrested Jackie L. Hux, 21, 219 Circle Road, Newport, on charges of violation of probation.

 

 

Second-offense DUI

 

Friday, Patrolwoman Amy Elswick arrested Bobby W. Lynch, 40, 552 Wilton Springs Road, Newport, on charges of second-offense DUI, second-offense driving as a habitual motor vehicle offender, violation of the light law and violation of the registration law.

 

 

Jewelry, cell phone stolen from Jefferson Avenue

 

Saturday, Lt. Ronnie Landers responded to a call made by Dawn Jenkins, 21, 342 Jefferson Ave., Newport, and Misty Whipple, 21, same address, concerning the theft of several items from their residence. Upon arrival, Landers spoke with Jenkins and Whipple who stated they both had property stolen. Entry inside the residence was reportedly made through the home’s back door and the bedrooms were “ransacked.” Jenkins’ cell phone and charger were stolen while Whipple had three gold rings, $100 change, one pocketknife and a dice-shaped ashtray stolen. The estimated value of the stolen items is $480.

 

 

Cherokee damaged

 

Friday, Patrolman Ricky Parton was dispatched to a two-vehicle accident at the Food City West parking lot. Upon arrival, Parton spoke with Rebecca Sue McGaha, 50, 950 Alder Road, Bybee, who said she went inside the grocery store to shop. When McGaha returned to her 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee, she noticed it had been struck by another vehicle. McGaha told Parton that when she pulled into her parking spot, no other vehicle was near hers. Parton noticed the paint was scratched off the rear passenger-side door of the Jeep. The vehicle responsible for the damaged was not located.

 

 

Nissan strikes Pontiac

 

Friday, Patrolwoman Amy Elswick was dispatched to a two-vehicle accident at the Lowe’s parking lot. Upon arrival, Elswick spoke with Kyle Tyler, 18, 4854 Wakeman Way, Cosby, who stated he parked the 1995 Nissan XTerra he was driving next to a 2001 Pontiac owned by Tonya Lee Owens, no age given, 1725 Junior Williams Road, Dandridge. When Taylor attempted to back from the parking space, he struck the driver’s-side of the Pontiac.

 

 

Saturn Rams Dodge

 

Friday, Patrolman David Smith was dispatched to a two-vehicle accident on Woodlawn Avenue. According to the report, Charles M. Yates, 22, 553 Woodlawn Ave., Newport, and Andrew J. Balch, 23, 2270 Scott Pond Road, Parrottsville, approached the intersection of Woodlawn Avenue and Mineral Street simultaneously. Balch reportedly made a left turn from Mineral Street onto Woodlawn Avenue with his 2002 Dodge Ram pickup. Yates reportedly attempted to travel north on Woodlawn Avenue in his 1993 Nissan Sentra and struck Balch’s vehicle.
