Gunned with charges
Thursday, Dep. Robert Thornton arrested Jamie Allen
Winchester, 28, 1760 Fisher Vin Road, Del Rio, on charges of violation of
community corrections plus a capias for the sale and delivery of one-half ounce
marijuana in Jefferson County.
Panhandled
Thursday, Dep. Hollis Emmons filled out an offense
report made by Joe McNabb, 43, 120 Hill Top Drive, Newport, concerning the
theft of several items from his home. According to the report, McNabb stated a
sister entered his residence through his kitchen window and stole six pots and
pans, two antique pictures, two porcelain lamps, one brass bed’s head and foot
board, five bed sheets, one sewing box containing $519 cash, two 100 foot
extension cords, several tools plus a set of crystal plates and glasses. McNabb
told Emmons he was at work when the burglary took place. A witness was reported
also. The estimated value of the stolen items is $2,149.
Rig’s battery stolen
Thursday, Dep. Hollis Emmons filled out an offense
report made by Grey Graves, 56, 175 Friendship Road, Newport, concerning the
theft of a battery from his semi. According to the report, Graves said the
theft occurred between Tuesday and Thursday. The estimated value of the stolen
battery is $560.
Police
$17,750 in jewelry missing
Thursday, Patrolman Stephen Higginbotham contacted
Victoria McCabe, 55, 118 Granite Way, Newport, to gather information about an
estimated $17,750 worth of jewelry missing from her 2003 Ford F-150. According
to the report, McCabe told Higginbotham she came to town around 4 p.m. and went
to Wal-Mart, then to an insurance agent in the Village Shopping Center before
visiting an office at the Eastern Plaza Shopping Center. McCabe stated she
thought she locked her truck but wasn’t sure. When she returned home at 6 p.m.,
she noticed a black bag containing several items of jewelry, kept under her
seat was missing. McCabe told Higginbotham she knew she had the bag when she
left home. Police were unable to find any signs of forced entry on McCabe’s
F-150.
Runner restrained
Friday, Patrolman Stephen Higginbotham arrested
Matthew A. Landis, 27, 607 Myers Circle, Newport, on charges of resisting
arrest, failure to stop, frisk, halt or search. According to the report,
Higginbotham was attempting to talk to Landis about a disturbance reported at
Myers Circle when the suspect fled. Higginbotham’s report stated that when
Landis saw the officer walking toward him, he ran behind an apartment complex
toward Masters Circle then Freeman Street. Dispatch contacted Higginbotham and
informed him Landis returned to Myers Circle. Higginbotham apprehended Landis
and arrested him on the above charges.
Impala vandalized, text received
Thursday, Patrolman Billy Woody filled out an incident
report made by Jamie Hall, 20, 311 River Ridge Way, Newport, concerning the
vandalism of her car while it was parked at the Food City East parking lot.
According to the report, Hall stated two white females, 20s, dented her 2001
Chevrolet Impala at the east end store then scratched it at the west end
location. The suspects reportedly sent a text message to Hall stating they were
responsible for the estimated $1,500 damage done to her vehicle.
Lumina struck by Dakota
Thursday, Patrolman Jason Smith was dispatched to a
two-vehicle accident on Main Street. According to the report, Leslie Cureton,
55, 201 Masters Circle, Newport, stopped his 1992 Chevrolet Lumina on East Main
Street. Another driver, Esther Hunt, 69, 810 S. Highway 32, Cosby, attempted to
pass Cureton’s vehicle illegally with her 2003 Dodge Dakota and struck the
passenger-side of Cureton’s Chevrolet.
Cavalier and Taurus swap licks
Wednesday, Sgt. Jerry Shelton was dispatched to a
two-vehicle accident on the Cosby Highway. According to the report, Judy K.
Ballard, 67, 231 Old Cave Church, Newport, was traveling north in the turning
lane of Highway 32 near the intersections of Hedrick Drive and Mulberry Street in
her 2004 Ford Taurus when the driver of a 2002 Chevrolet Cavalier, Gerald
Jones, 56, 1303 Ivy Hall Drive, Newport, turned left from the highway and
collided with her vehicle.
Juvenile falls from skate park fence
Thursday, Patrolman Rick Stephenson was dispatched to
the Newport Skate Park on a call concerning a 15-year-old male who allegedly
climbed and fell from the fence surrounding the area. Upon arrival, Stephenson
spoke with Parks and Recreation Director Tim Dockery who said the juvenile
climbed the fence before the park was open and fell; injuring his right ankle.
Stephenson noted the juvenile’s ankle was swelling from the incident and called
Allied E.M.S. The juvenile’s grandmother was called to retrieve the
skateboarder. He was transported to Baptist Hospital of Cocke County by a
private driver.
