Clevenger charged with cleaving man

 

Monday, Dep. Steve Johnson arrested Jordi B. Clevenger, 22, 1211 Ponderosa Drive, Dandridge, on a warrant for aggravated assault charges taken out against her April 1, by Dep. C.J. Ball after she allegedly cut a 4 to 5-inch gash in the back of Shawn Meeks, 124 English Mountain Road. According to the report, Clevenger was taken into custody during a routine traffic stop. Meeks reportedly refused medical treatment after the incident.

 

 

Slow go leads to arrest off I-40

 

Tuesday, Dep. C.J. Ball observed a black 1993 Ford Crown Victoria driven by Keith Thomas, 19, 7326 Beech Leaf Way, Knoxville, traveling between 48 and 54 mph in the left hand lane of Interstate 40 East. Ball’s report mentions that state law mandates driver’s to travel a minimum speed of 55 mph when traveling in the passing lane on Interstate 40. Ball pulled Thomas over off Exit 435 in a restaurant parking lot and was informed the driver didn’t have a driver’s license because of failure to satisfy a citation from Sept. 16, 2007. Thomas was arrested on charges of driving on a suspended license and violation of the seatbelt law.

 

 

Athens resident’s car found aflame

 

Sunday, Dep. Joseph Owings was dispatched to Tally Hollow Road on a call concerning a burning vehicle. When Owings arrived, the Cosby Volunteer Fire Department was on scene dousing the vehicle, which is reported as a total loss. Owings read the vehicle’s VIN and discovered it was a 2002 Nissan belonging to a man from Athens.

 

 

Public intoxication charges

 

Saturday, Mar. 29, Dep. Jason Oury arrested Ronald Dean Silvers, 34, 3540 Jockey Road, Limestone, on charges of public intoxication.

 

Sunday, Dep. Robert Thornton arrested Tobias A. Wright, 32, Rays Loop, Newport, on charges of public intoxication.

 

 

Runner apprehended

 

Sunday, Lt. Jonathan Morgan was conducting a routine traffic stop on Mulberry Street when a passenger in the vehicle he pulled over fled on foot toward Jefferson Avenue. Morgan gave chase and despite numerous verbal commands to stop, the suspect continued to run. Deputies finally apprehended Dustin K. Smith, 35, 1242 Evans Valley Way, Newport, who was arrested on charges of resisting to stop, frisk and halt, resisting arrest, violation of probation and failure to appear in General Session’s Court.

Saturday, Dep. Robert Thornton arrested David Carroll Livingston, 27, 204 Bowman Drive, Newport, on charges of failure to appear in Circuit Court.

 

 

Eastbound and down-ed…with charges

 

Saturday, Dep. Derek Wright observed a westbound 1986 Ford Bronco driven by Jason Livingston, 29, 1370 Walnut Grove, Sevierville, drive along the eastbound lanes of Highway 25/70 before entering the Midnite Rodeo parking lot. Livingston was arrested on charges of driving on the wrong side of the road and driving on a revoked license.

 

 

Playstation 2, related games stolen

 

Sunday, Lt. Richard Caldwell responded to a call made by Natasha Swafford, 22, 1547 Geranium Way, Parrottsville, concerning the theft of her Playstation 2, 13 Playstation 2 games and several DVDs from her residence. The estimated value of the stolen items is $520.

 

 

Statue swiped from Shellbark Road

 

Sunday, Dep. Derrick Webb responded to a call made by Robert Watson, 61, 513 Shellbark Road, Newport, concerning the theft of a concrete yard statue and twirling-flag windsock from the front lawn of her residence Saturday night. According to the report, the estimated value of the stolen items is $85.

 

 

More copper taken

 

Friday, Dep. Derrick Webb filled out an offense report made by George Singleton, 72, 351 Laurel Way, concerning the theft of copper wiring, a calculator and a stainless steel refrigerator from a building at 3548 Cosby Highway. The estimated value of the stolen items is $1,110.

 

 

Mower taken in plain view

 

Sunday, Lt. Richard Caldwell responded to a theft call at 224 View Way concerning the theft of a 22-inch lawn mower. According to the report, Derrick Styles, 26, same address, told Caldwell he came home and found his lawn mower in the back of a truck. A suspect reportedly ran away from the scene with Styles’ mower.

 

 

Shed raided on Wilton Springs Road

 

Sunday, Sgt. Tony Whitten responded to a call made by Robert Hicks Jr., 32, 388 Wilton Springs Road, Newport, concerning the theft of several items from his shed. According to the report, Hicks stated he heard his dogs barking between 1 and 2 a.m. When he later went to his shed, Hicks discovered someone had stolen approximately $2,100 in assorted tools.

 

 

Wallet, medication stolen

 

Sunday, Dep. Joseph Owings responded to a call made by Anthony Michael Tucker, 24, 766 Old Sevierville Highway, Newport, concerning the theft of his wallet and medication at his residence. According to the report, Tucker alleged he and a woman had gone to a pizza restaurant to pick up an order. When the two returned to Tucker’s residence, they went into his bedroom. Tucker told Owings he removed his wallet from his pants, exited the bedroom and went to the restroom. While in the restroom, the woman reportedly went outside the residence. Tucker told Owings he believed she was retrieving one of the pizzas they picked up from a car. When Tucker exited the restroom, he noticed the female leaving his home. When Tucker went to his bedroom, he discovered his wallet was missing and his medicine box was laying open on his bed. The estimated value of the stolen medication and wallet, which reportedly contained $176 in cash, is $441.80.

 

 

Credit card fraud

 

Monday, Dep. C.J. Ball filled out an incident report made by Esther Murphy, 44, 700 Highway 160, Newport, concerning the fraudulent use of her debit card. According to the report, Murphy stated someone has used her local bank debit card on the Internet to order airline tickets, Apple iTunes and various merchandise. The suspect(s) used the card on April 10, 11, 12 and 14. Murphy’s debit card has been used to make a reported $1,285 in unwanted expenditures.

 

 

Sportage and Tacoma collide

 

Saturday, Dep. Hollis Emmons was dispatched to a two-vehicle accident on Highway 32. According to the report, Dave B. Caldwell, 25, 1412 Highland Ave., Apartment No. 2, Knoxville, was traveling south on Highway 32 in his 2000 Toyota Tacoma and was making a left turn into a private driveway when the driver’s-side front fender of his vehicle was struck by a 2000 Kia Sportage, driven by Barbara W. Proffitt, 49, 415 Woodlawn Ave., Newport.

 

 

Trailer contoured

 

Saturday, Dep. Hollis Emmons was dispatched to a two-vehicle accident off North Highway 321. According to the report, Christopher L. Gregg, 36, 660 Trentham Hollow Road, Parrottsville, was pulling a 10’ trailer north on Highway 321 with his 2001 Chevrolet S-10 and was turning left onto Highway 340 when his trailer was struck by a 2000 Ford Contour driven by Dorothy M. Lethco, 52, 344 Ottinger Road, Parrottsville.

 

 

Mower stolen

 

Thursday, Dep. Alton Cureton responded to a call made by Carroll Christopher Holt, 35, 304 Carson Springs Road, Newport, concerning the theft of his LT180 John Deere lawn mower. According to the report, Holt said the lawnmower was stolen from his home between April 8 and 10. The estimated value of the lawnmower is $2,500.

 

 

Corolla backs into Camry

 

Thursday, Dep. Randall Hartsell was dispatched to a two-vehicle accident in the Newport Bargain Barn’s parking lot. According to the report, Frank V. Linn, 77, 1081 Cove Road, Sevierville, backed his 1997 Toyota Corolla into an unoccupied 2001 Toyota Camry owned by Jane Weems, no age given, 196 KOA Lane.

Public intoxication charges

 

Monday, Patrolman Donald Coakley arrested Joey Stepp, 44, 1126 P.O. Box 63, Newport, on charges of public intoxication.

 

 

Warrant served for alleged drug fraud

 

Monday, Sgt. Scott Lamb arrested Joshua J. Stuart, 23, 1938 Brookes Cemetery Road, Newport, on charges of drug fraud. According to the report, Lamb arrested Stuart after Lt. Jason Ramsey took out a drug fraud warrant for his arrest.

 

 

Van stolen, recovered by CCSD

 

Monday, Patrolman David Smith was dispatched to 465 Learning Way on a call concerning the theft of a 2004 Ford Club Wagon van from the Douglas-Cooperative. According to the report, an employee told Smith the 15-passenger van had been stolen sometime Sunday night. The employee stated he was unsure how much gas the vehicle had in it at the time of the theft. Smith noted two sets of keys for the vehicle were found in the Douglas-Cooperative office. The Cocke County Sheriff’s Department later found the van abandoned at Cocke Estates near building No. 4. The van’s ignition was damaged and the front passenger-side window had been shattered to gain access to the vehicle.

 

Pontiac strikes Sierra near intersection

 

Monday, Sgt. Scott Lamb was dispatched to a two-vehicle accident at the junction of Hedrick Drive and the Cosby Highway. According to the report, Arnold L. Bailey, 49, 2241 Cosby Highway, Newport, had stopped his 2005 Chevrolet Sierra at the junction of Hedrick Drive and the Cosby Highway for a traffic light when the rear of his vehicle was struck in the rear by a 2002 Pontiac driven by Tyler L. Bolton, 17, 147 Underwood Road, Newport.

 

 

Accord slides into Escape

 

Monday, Patrolwoman Heather Lawson was dispatched to a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of East Broadway and Bear Avenue. According to the report, Jennifer J. Harrod, 32, 215 Woodland Drive, Mars Hill, N.C., was traveling west on East Broadway in her 2001 Honda Accord and was approaching a traffic light near the Bear Avenue junction when she braked heavily after failing to notice the light was red. Harrod’s Accord reportedly slid into the intersection’s traffic and struck a 2001 Ford Escape driven by Elizabeth Shelton, 78, 719 Seventh St., Newport.

 

 

Taurus bumps Impala

 

Saturday, Lt. Jason Ramsey was dispatched to a two-vehicle accident near the junction of East Main Street and McMahan Avenue. According to the report, Melissa I. Norwood, 35, 861 Mantooth Hills Way, Newport, stopped her 2006 Chevrolet Impala on East Main Street for a red light at the intersection McMahan Avenue and North Street when her car was bumped in the rear by a 2006 Ford Taurus driven by Shirley G. Steppe, 70, 181 N. Highway 340, Parrottsville.

 

 

Pontiac bug-bitten

 

Monday, Patrolman Ricky Parton was dispatched to a two-vehicle accident on Hedrick Drive in front of the CCHS parking lot. According to the report, Casey L. Neblett, 17, 530 Ninth St., Newport, stated she was traveling north on Hedrick Drive in a 1999 Volkswagen Beetle when a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am driven by Kristal M. Gann, 36, 235 Smith St., Newport, stopped in front of her. Neblett told Parton she didn’t have time to stop before colliding with the rear of Gann’s Pontiac.
