NEWPORT--Celebrate Life, a
cancer support group serving Cocke and Jefferson
counties, is inviting the public to attend April's monthly meeting, which will
feature an author.
According to Michele Sexton, Kay Stevens Lloyd is a
breast cancer survivor from Maryville
who wrote "Cancer with an Attitude One Woman's Journey Through Breast
Cancer."
Susan G. Komen Foundation representatives told Sexton
about Lloyd and felt the local support group could be interested in a program
led by the author. Lloyd was also featured in a publication supporting the Race
for the Cure.
According to the statement on the book, the story not
only speaks to breast cancer survivors, but also to all women facing challenge
and adversity.
"What she started as a diary of diagnosis and
treatment turned into so much more," said Sexton. "It helped her to
discover herself. She also teaches journaling and its importance."
The meeting is set for Thursday, April 24, at 7 p.m. at
the Episcopal Church of the Annunciation, off Cosby Highway. Copies of the book, which
retails for $14.95, will be available for purchase.
"I'd like to encourage everyone to attend this
program," Sexton said. "This will be a wonderful informative
program."
