Alleged stalker corralled
Thursday, Detective Derrick Woods arrested Shelby J. McDaniel, 69, 680 Corral Way, Newport, on charges of stalking.
Multiple charges stem from wreck
Thursday, Dep. Derek Wright arrested Gary Stuart, 45, 313 Mountain Grove Way, Cosby, on charges of third offense DUI, driving with a revoked license for a second offense DUI, violation of the open container law, violation of the implied consent law and driving without insurance. Wright and Sgt. Ricky Holt located Stuart approximately 300 yards from a one-vehicle crash reportedly caused by Stuart.
$15,000 stolen from account
Thursday, Dep. Alton Cureton filled out an offense report made by Brian John Holt, 36, 514 Airport Road, Bybee, concerning the theft of $15,000 from his bank account. According to the report, Holt stated someone stole $15,000 from his Newport bank account between the dates of Aug. 15 and Feb. 21.
Seven checks forged
Thursday, Dep. Alton Cureton filled out an offense report made by Jennifer Marie Jenkins, 21, 2540 Old Long Creek Road, Del Rio, concerning the theft of seven of her personal checks. According to the report, Jenkins told Cureton someone stole her checks and has so far cashed $785.58 worth of forged checks. Jenkins’ account is through a Newport bank.
Van wrecks off O’Neil Road
Thursday, Dep. David Parton filled out an incident report made by Kenny Roger Yates, 42, 160 Flat Rock Way, Del Rio, concerning a one-vehicle accident off O’Neil Road. According to the report, Yates told Parton he wrecked his 1996 Ford Aerostar van on O’Neil Road and had the vehicle towed to Del Rio before deputies were contacted.
Trucker’s companion steals cash
Thursday, Dep. Derek Wright responded to a call made by Jessie Todd, 64, P.O. Box 423, Pineville, Ky., concerning the theft of cash from his wallet. According to the report, Todd told Wright that while he was parked at a Newport truck stop a female companion in the sleeper of his semi stole $400 from his wallet and left.
Bottled cash lifted from party
Sunday, Dep. Derek Wright responded to a call made by James Barrett, 104 Dandelion Way, Newport, concerning the theft of $30 in both cash and coins. According to the report, Barrett told Wright that while he hosted a birthday party for a family member, someone stole $30 from a plastic bottle he keeps inside his home. Barrett provided Wright with a list of people present at the party.

Lamb ‘cracks’ down
Thursday, Sgt. Scott Lamb responded to a complaint call concerning two individuals allegedly smoking crack cocaine inside a maroon Buick while parked at an East Broadway shopping center parking lot. Upon arrival, Lamb observed Jerry D. Dellinger, 43, 513 Ridge Road, Sevierville, injecting a hypodermic needle in his left forearm. After an investigation, Lamb determined the substance Dellinger was injecting was Oxycodone. Lamb found a spoon, leather belt, ice water and a hypodermic needle at the scene. Dellinger told Lamb he injected two pills in addition to taking two orally. Lamb arrested Dellinger on charges of possession of schedule IV drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia. Lamb also arrested Dellinger’s passenger, Janet D. Garland, 44, 413 Ledo Road, Sevierville, on charges of possession of schedule IV drugs. Garland alleged she picked up the drugs, reportedly prescribed to a family member, from a local pharmacy. Garland told Lamb she gave Dellinger four of the pills. Lamb found more than 50 similar pills inside a tin kept in Garland’s purse.
Driveway trashed
Thursday, Patrolwoman Heather Lawson responded to a call made by Linda Turner, 56, 644 E. Broadway, Newport, concerning trash thrown in her driveway. According to the report, Turner told Lawson she and a family member went to Knoxville Wednesday afternoon and discovered trash had been strewn about her driveway while they were gone. Turner believes an in-law’s girlfriend, described as a white female, 19, may be responsible for the vandalism.
Meds meddled with
Thursday, Patrolman Ricky Parton filled out an incident report made by Sandra Yahn, 60, 1030 Lightning Road, Parrottsville, concerning the theft of her medication. According to the report, Yahn told Parton she has a friend who occasionally helps her with chores around her home. Yahn stated the white female, 40s, occasionally picks up her prescription medication. The friend allegedly took Yahn’s prescription and replaced the pills (approximately 60) with Tylenol. Parton received copies of the prescription and related receipts. The estimated value of the stolen medication is $5.60.
Chevy and Nissan collide near pumps
Thursday, Patrolwoman Amy Elswick was dispatched to a two-vehicle accident at a Cosby Highway gas station parking lot. According to the report, Monica Dawn Rathburn, 22, 620 West Side Road, Burnsville, N.C., stated she stopped her 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier in the station’s parking lot before driving toward a pump. Rathburn alleged that when she drove toward the pump she did not see a 2007 Nissan Van driven by Brenda Kay Phillips, 48, 307 10th St., Newport, traveling through the lot. The two vehicles collided. Phillips stated she was traveling through the lot toward a pump when Rathburn struck her van on the passenger-side. A witness stated Rathburn was parked, pulled out and then struck Phillips’ van while another witness stated the Nissan struck Rathburn’s Chevrolet.
Accord and Sentra clip mirrors
Thursday, Patrolwoman Heather Lawson was dispatched to a two-vehicle accident on Prospect Avenue. According to the report, Nancy C. Jones, 52, 404 Buckingham Drive, Newport, was traveling south on Prospect Avenue in her 2004 Honda Accord when she was reportedly forced to cross the centerline of the road to avoid striking a parked vehicle on the side of the roadway. While maneuvering around the parked vehicle, Jones struck a 2007 Kia Sentra driven by Ray E. Nichols, 62, 350 River Rest Way, Apartment No. 5, Newport. Minor mirror damage resulted from the accident.
Fraudulent bank withdrawals
Thursday, Sgt. Scott Lamb filled out an incident report made by Michael Braley, 51, 261 S. Highway 32, Cosby, concerning the theft of $2,000 from his local bank account. According to the report, Braley told Lamb an estimated $2,000 has been withdrawn from his account without his permission. Braley provided Lamb with an e-mail compiled by an employee of the bank, which shows three company names, possibly false, used for the withdrawal.
Vehicle repossessed
Thursday, Lt. Ronnie Landers filled out an incident report made by Raleka Elliott, 33, 532 Upper Broad St., Newport, concerning personal items taken when her 1999 Mitsubishi Mirage was repossessed. According to the report, Elliott told Landers the vehicle was taken from her driveway. Elliott stated the subjects repossessing the Mitsubishi reportedly wouldn’t allow her to remove her personal property from the vehicle. Elliott stated she attempted to call several people to find out why she wasn’t allowed to remove her belongings from the vehicle. Elliott stated she had one pair of Nike shoes, $200 cash, schoolbooks and a bag in the vehicle when it was repossessed. The estimated value of the items is $369.
