NEWPORT—On Friday, Nov. 22, Wellington Place honored local veterans currently residing at the home. Smoky Mountain Home Health and Hospice (SMHHH) joined forces with UT Hospice and Amedisys Home and Health to celebrate survivors of World War II and the Vietnam War as part of the 'We Honor Veterans' program.

The ceremony began with Dale Brown, commander of the AMVETS, and Richard Holt, commander of the Disabled American Veterans, speaking to the Wellington Place audience.  Brown said, "We are here today to honor true American heroes."  Then Rev. Eddie Young, another veteran, led a prayer.  SMHHH employee Jesse Ramsey provided some entertainment by singing Lee Greenwood’s "God Bless the USA."
