NEWPORT—According to television personality and author Bill Landry, the late Ray Hicks was the best storyteller he ever knew.

"He could tell stories for hours on end," Landry said Sunday afternoon at the Community Center where he regaled his audience with stories of his work on WBIR's long running Heartland television series and his experiences in gathering and preserving Appalachian history.

When asked, “Who’s the best storyteller you ever knew?, Landry didn’t hesitate to respond, "Ray Hicks, by far!"
