NEWPORT-Cocke County received its first snowfall of the season Wednesday morning, with most areas receiving about one inch of snow. The National Weather Service in Morristown predicted snow flurries through the morning, with less than an inch of additional accumulation. Most of the snowfall was limited to grassy areas, and most roads in the county remained clear for travel. Wednesday was expected to be the largest travel day of the year across the country. Fortunately, schools were not impacted by the weather, with Tuesday being the last day before the Thanksgiving break. High school basketball games scheduled Tuesday, however, were postponed. For more details, please see the Thursday edition of the Newport Plain Talk.
