The opening night of the 2013-14 Cocke County Elementary Basketball Association season arrived on Monday night with eight games highlighting the action.

Defending league champion Parrottsville earned a sweep of their games at Grassy Fork to kick off the 2013 season in style.

Parrottsville 55,
Grassy Fork 16 (BOYS)

The Parrotts got out to a quick start in the opening quarter, as a 21-3 run enabled them to open up a 32-7 lead at halftime to run away from the Ravens just minutes into the game. Isiah Benjamin scored nine of his game-high 13 points in the game�s opening period in pacing the Parrotts to their large advantage.

Parrottsville, which had 14 players crack the scoring column, led by a 38-11 score at the end of three quarters and was the beneficiary of a 17-point fourth quarter by its reserves in claiming the 39-point win.

Braden Shaffer led the Raves with seven points in the game.

Grassy Fork 19 (GIRLS)

A strong defensive effort by the Lady Parrotts enabled them to take control early on in their season opener.

Parrottsville allowed a pair of field goals to the Lady Ravens in the opening half as they raced out to a 17-4 lead at intermission. A balanced scoring effort saw six Lady Parrotts score in the first half.

While Grassy Fork was still in striking distance, the Lady Parrotts eliminated any question with an 11-4 third quarter run on their way to claiming the win.

Alexus Watts led the Lady Parrotts in scoring with nine points, while Tayler Webb�s 12-point outing led Grassy Fork. Ten of Webb�s 12 points came in the game�s final period.

PARROTTSVILLE (35): Alexus Watts 9, Maylee Dalton 8, Tabitha Frazier 6, Alyssa Askew 5, Amelia Studebaker 5, Uriah Reed 2.

GRASSY FORK (19): Tayler Webb 12, Leia Groat 5, Alexis Sumrall 2.

Centerview 54,
Northwest 10 (GIRLS)

A strong effort on offense and defense allowed the Centerview Lady Falcons to pounce on Northwest early. Centerview used a 23-2 opening quarter to set the tone early, as they were able to run away with an easy victory on opening night.

Ten different Centerview players scored in Monday night�s game, led by Mallory Clevenger�s 13-point night, as they Lady Falcons held a 31-5 lead at halftime and continued their dominance by leading 38-10 at the end of the third quarter.

Laura Campos Nucci led the Lady Patriots with five points.

Centerview 40,
Northwest 19 (BOYS)

Using a shutout in the game�s first quarter, the Centerview Falcons opened up enough cushion to seize momentum early in the first game of the season.

The Falcons held Northwest without a basket in the opening quarter, as they turned a 7-0 lead into a 19-7 halftime edge.

While the Patriots were still within striking distance coming out of halftime, the Falcons used an 11-5 run over the next six minutes to put the game out of reach. Only Northwest�s Chevy Ball was able to score in the quarter.

Centerview�s Ashtyn White led all scorers with 17 points, with 11 of those coming in the second half. Northwest was paced by Will Grooms, who scored eight points in the game.

Thursday night action

Teams return to the court for the second night of the 2013-14 season this evening. Edgemont plays in its season opener by hosting Northwest, Grassy Fork visits Centerview, Parrottsville hosts Cosby and Smoky Mountain visits Bridgeport. All games tip-off at 6 p.m.
