NEWPORT—With lots of items and a large crowd on Saturday, the Boys and Girls Club of Newport/Cocke County had one of its best auctions ever.According to Boys and Girls Club Director Shane Borie, the auction raised more than $22,000 for the club.“We did really well,” said Borie. “It was one of best auctions we’ve ever had. We had a great turnout and were able to sell every item that was donated for the auction.”Borie said the item bringing in the largest sum during Saturday’s auction was a Harley-Davidson motorcycle donated by Derreck Whitson, which sold for $6,000. The auction also featured a boat, two cars and a pony as some of the larger items.Although all of the auction items are gone, Borie said some items from a “county store” setup by the club are still available. Anyone interested in examining or purchasing those items may call (423) 623-6536 or stop by the Boys and Girls Club at 531 Bailey St., Newport.
