COSBY--The Cosby Eagles came into their final game of the season bruised and battered Friday night, and the Unaka Rangers took advantage and won easily, 47-0.
Cosby played several players in different positions due to injuries, and it certainly made a difference on Friday.
The Rangers (4-6, 3-3) also capitalized on four Cosby (1-9, 1-5) turnovers, three of which were returned for touchdowns.
Unaka piled up 340 yards of offense, 327 of which came on the ground. Austin Anderson ran for 195 yards and three scores, while Andy Guinn added 113 yards and a touchdown.
The Eagles totaled 120 yards offensively, but were handcuffed in what they could do because of all the injuries.
Matt Lane led the Eagles with 68 rushing yards, and Lance Greco added a pair of interceptions defensively.
Cosby head coach Kevin Hall was pleased with his teams effort, mainly because of the fight they gave despite all the injuries.
The Eagles only trailed 6-0 after a quarter, and it wasn't until the second half when the Rangers pulled away.
"I'm super proud of the young kids I had out there. We did well in the first half," Hall said. "We were in the ball game. We made plays and had some big plays. A penalty killed us there early, but we did the best we could this week with what we had.
"I'm telling you right now, the kids we threw out there this week, they did a great job. My hats off to the young men I had out there. We had guys out of position and they were overwhelmed with some of the things they had to learn. We were taking kids and throwing them in at quarterback that have never dreamed of playing quarterback. Then we're taking kids that were having to play a lot of minutes tonight that are freshmen and sophomores that haven't played a lot."
