NEWPORT—The hundreds of people expected to line Newport streets on Saturday, December 14, for the city’s annual Christmas parade will see parade floats and participants embracing the theme of Christmas Around the World.

“The Cocke County Partnership/Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce that applications for this year’s parade are now available at the Chamber of Commerce office,” said Chamber Director Valerie Fancher on Friday. “The possibilities for colorful, educational, and beautiful entries are boundless.”

According to Fancher, the Christmas parade will start at 3 p.m. “Parade staging will begin at 11:30 a.m. at the Cocke County High School parking lot. Starting at Debbie’s Drive-In, the parade will continue down Broadway heading east through downtown Newport and conclude at Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church.”

Registration fees for the parade are $10 for floats and/or vehicles accompanied by up to 15 marchers, and $5 for marchers only, $5 for groups up to 15, and $5 for horses, per horse. “In keeping with tradition, a portion of the registration fees will go to the Cocke County Education Foundation,” Fancher added.
