NEWPORT-An Asheville police officer with ties to Parrottsville family died in a wreck in Asheville, N.C., on Tuesday, Oct. 29, according to relatives and police reports.

Michael Ledbetter of Parrottsville is the father-in-low of the officer whose patrol car he was driving plummeted off of the Jeff Bowen Bridge over the French Broad River, and onto the ground.

Upon receiving the tragic news, Ledbetter rushed to see his daughter Genevieve Bingaman in N.C. She was married to Asheville Police Department officer Robert Austin Bingaman, 37, who died, according to Ledbetter.
