NEWPORT-On Saturday, Oct. 26, at about 4:50 a.m., Christopher James O'Brien was charged with assault on an officer after he allegedly kicked a sergeant in the head, the Cocke County Sheriff's Department reported.

O'Brien was reportedly put in a restraint chair after kicking a door and hitting the walls in the jail annex's visitation area, Sgt. Jody Ball reported.

O'Brien allegedly threatened Sgt. Ball by telling him when he sees him on the street, he "would pay", the report stated.

Officers put O'Brien in a restraint chair, but he got one of his feet loose and pulled himself down the hallway of the Jail Annex. When Sgt. Ball went to the hallway to restrain O'Brien's foot, O'Brien allegedly kicked Sgt. Ball in the head, according to the report.
