NEWPORT—After a gutsy performance last week in a loss to Cherokee High School, the Cocke County High School Fighting Cocks will try to answer the bell again and respond in the 2013 season finale on Friday night.

The Fighting Cocks travel to Burke-Toney Stadium in Morristown to take on the Trojans of West High in the final game for both schools this season. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

CCHS first-year coach Caleb Slover hopes his squad brings the same fight to the table that they carried to Cherokee last week. The Fighting Cocks played the Chiefs tough and was within striking distance in the final quarter, before falling 49-36.

“Our kids played hard (last week) and I’m hoping they come out with that same fire one more time,” Slover said. “We always talk about answering the bell and the bell is going to ring Friday night, and we’ve got to see if we can stand up, answer it and try to find a way to win.”
