NEWPORTó"The peroxide is working great," said Newport Utilities Wastewater Plant Manager Carrol Proffitt on Tuesday in giving his monthly report to NU's board of directors.

"Our 90-day effort ends Nov. 9," said Proffitt, "but I recommend we keep doing it. The odor we have now is on the sludge dryer."

For decades, the pungent odor from the plant has been heavily criticized, but in recent months more and more efforts to eliminate the problem have been made.
