NEWPORT—The Cocke County Legislative Body voted Monday evening to give Life Care Ambulance Service 10 days to resolve a “breach” in the county’s contract with First Call Ambulance Service or face possible litigation. The motion, made by Phil Killion and seconded by Scott McClure, states that if the issue isn’t resolved in 10 days, Cocke County Mayor Vaughn Moore is to initiate a lawsuit to end the breach.CLB members took the action after a brief closed-door session, citing attorney-client privilege due to possible litigation. At the heart of the debate is the county’s contract with First Call Ambulance, which specifies what ambulance services can operate in the county. Cocke County Ambulance is allowed to operate. Reportedly, however, part of Cocke County Ambulance Service has been acquired by Life Care Ambulance Service, with both services operating in the county. For more details, please see the Tuesday edition of the Newport Plain Talk.
