NEWPORT-The Tennessee Highway Patrol on Friday released the complete list of those killed and injured in the three-vehicle accident on Interstate 40 westbound near mile marker 423 in Jefferson County, on Wednesday, Oct. 2.Eight people died and 14 were injured when a left front tire blew on a church bus returning home to Statesville, N.C., from Gatlinburg.The driver of the Front Street Baptist Church passenger bus, which was traveling east on I-40, lost control of the bus, which crossed the median and crashed into a tractor-trailer and Chevrolet Tahoe SUV that were headed west.The tractor-trailer apparently caught fire immediately, and the bus overturned, according to the THP.Several first responders from Cocke County joined other surrounding counties in providing aid to the injured and helping in other ways as needed.Cocke County Fire Department Chief William Smallwood said the accident scene "was the worst one in 17 years" of service that he has seen. Other officials described it as "horrific".The six people killed on the church bus are Cloyce Matheny (a male), 95; Brenda Smith, 69; Marsha Mclelland, 62, (wife in injured Ed Mclelland); Barbara Morrison, 66 (wife of Randy Morrison); Randy Morrison, 66, the driver; and John Wright, 73. John Wright is from Mocksville, N.C., while the others on the bus are from Statesville.Mose farmer, 66, of New Orleans, La., was the tractor-trailer driver killed in the crash. At the time of the crash, he was operating a 2014 Volvo tractor-trailer loaded with paper towels for B.A.H.
