NEWPORT-Jasmine Sells, 16, of 445 Trentham Road, in Newport, was driving a 1998 Mercury Mystique in the rain Wednesday, headed west on New Cave Church Road, before Splashaway Road, when the lost control of the vehicle, hit a tree, and overturned into a low-water creek below the road.

Miraculously, Sells suffered only minor scratches and abrasions, said Lt. C.J. Ball of the Cocke County Sheriff's Department.

Sells was teary-eyed and understandably emotional following the wreck, which occurred at about 3:30 p.m., the Cocke County Sheriff's Department reported.

Lt. C.J. Ball said Sells had just gotten out of school and was driving on the rain-splattered "oily" road when she lost control of the vehicle.
