NEWPORT-Newport pharmacist Donald "Jabo" Francis was honored with the 2013 Cocke County Citizenship Award at a sold-out luncheon at the Carson Springs Baptist Conference Center on Thursday, Sept. 12, that was also a fundraiser for the agency, Senior Citizens Home Assistance Service of Cocke County.

Francis, 69, is the longtime owner and pharmacist at Jabo's Pharmacy in Newport, located at the corner of Lincoln Avenue and East Broadway.

The personal intersected with the professional as acquaintances cited many of Francis's high-caliber character traits, and dedication as a public servant in many community organizations, including 12 years on the Newport Utilities board of directors, and five years on the National Bank of Tennessee's board of directors.

Following the luncheon, Francis told The Newport Plain Talk, "It's just an honor to receive this."
