NEWPORT-It apparently took only two shots to scare a would-be burglar from entering the residence of Logan Talley, 21, on Mountain Ranch Road, in Newport, on Tuesday, July 30 at midnight, the Cocke County Sheriff's Department reported.

Officers were dispatched to Talley's residence for a break-in in progress, according to a report by Deputy Sheriff Zach Shelton.

Talley said he was in his bedroom when he heard a noise at the back door. He said he grabbed his Glock .40-caliber handgun and went into the kitchen, where he allegedly saw a hand reaching through the door trying to unlatch the chain that was locking the door, Shelton stated in his report.
