NEWPORT—Receiving the same birthday present for a second time may not seem appealing to most 10-year-olds. For Caden Smith, it was a birthday wish come true.

As reported in the July 11 edition of The Newport Plain Talk, Caden’s chocolate lab puppy named “Jace”, an early birthday present, went missing Sunday morning, July 7.

Caden’s parents, Larry and Chrissy Smith of Sequoyah Drive, were uncertain if the new pet had been stolen or just frightened away by fireworks in the neighborhood the night before.

Miraculously, however, the boy and dog were reunited on Sunday, July 14, one day before Caden’s 10th birthday.

“I got a call from someone who had seen the article in the newspaper,” said Chrissy Smith. “They said they found the dog at a house near the golf course. They said Jace was in a box with a blanket laying over him.”

Chrissy Smith said the caller told her, since the dog had no collar, they had no way of contacting the owners.
