DEL RIO-A total of $2,500 in prizes will be awarded winners of the Del Rio Community Association's String Band Showdown during 2013's Del Rio Days celebration.

The musical competition will be held Saturday, October 26, from 1-5 p.m.

A grant from the East Tennessee Foundation's Arts Fund will allow the DRCA to offer $500 for each of four finalist bands for a one-hour performance, plus an additional $500 for the ban earning the Audience Favorite award.

According to contest organizer Mike Sledjeski, "The contest committee aims to present a variety of musical styles, so any type of musical repertoire can qualify. Bluegrass, old-timey and gospel music are the most common styles locally, but rockabilly, Texas swing, Americana, or any other category might also be included in the contest lineup. Bands will be required to feature primarily acoustic stringed instruments."
