NEWPORT-Students in Cocke County's schools returned to their classrooms this week, and those enrolled at Newport Grammar School will begin their new school year.

Many hours have been spent by parents and students alike in shopping for the innumerable school supplies needed for a successful year.

Ranging from the basics of clothing and backpacks to the countless 'little things,' such as pencils, paper, and notebooks, the costs involved can often overwhelm families with limited income.

"Sad to say," said Liz McNabb, US Bank employee, "with the poor economy and high unemployment rate, many parents continue to find it harder and harder, if not impossible, to find the money they need to purchase their children's basic supplies."
