NEWPORT—Plowing through an 84-page criminal court docket this week, Circuit Judge Ben W. Hooper II heard guilty pleas and legal motions, not to mention arraigning almost 200 people who were indicted on July 2 by the Cocke County Grand Jury.

The plea-bargained cases covered a variety of topics, ranging from drugs to theft and misdemeanor traffic defenses. Judge Hooper handled those cases on just Monday and Tuesday. There is another cay of criminal non-jury cases set on Friday.

One of two people who were living with two small children in a house where prosecutors say methamphetamine was allegedly being made entered a guilty plea Monday before Judge Hooper. The second defendant may also enter a plea but has applied for a diversion program.
