NASHVILLE—Cocke County’s unemployment rate County unemployment rates for May was unchanged, staying at 10.6 percent, according to the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development.
Out of a workforce of 16,020, 1,700 people were without jobs. Sevier County had the lowest rate in the region at 8.1 percent, down from 8.5 in April. Hamblen County followed at 9.5 percent, while Jefferson County was at 10.0 percent, up three tenths of a percent from the previous monmth. Greene County had the highest rate in the area at 11.2 percent, up six-tenths of a percent from April.
Tennessee’s unemployment rate for May was 8.3 percent, which increased three tenths of one percentage point from the April revised rate of 8.0 percent. The national unemployment rate for May 2013 was 7.6 percent, increasing by one tenth of one percentage point from the previous month.
