NEWPORT-Melissa Maxwell, 38, of 716 Lower Quarry Road, in Newport, suffered cuts and scrapes, including an apparently "pretty nasty cut" on her head after she tried to turn into the Walmart parking lot from Cosby Highway and her Chevrolet Cavalier was "T-boned" by an oncoming vehicle, on Friday, June 28, at 3 p.m., Newport Police Department Patrolman David Clevenger reported.
Wilma Teague, 34, of 2217 Dark Hollow Road, in Cosby was apparently headed south on Cosby Highway in a 2006 Chevrolet HHR, when Maxwell's 2004 Cavalier allegedly pulled into Teague's field of travel when Maxwell, who was headed north, turned left to enter the Walmart parking lot, Clevenger stated.
Clevenger went to the emergency room at Newport Medical Center to check on Maxwell's condition, and to gather more information from her for his accident report, but she was "already sedated and medicated, so I wasn't able to talk to her." A hospital staff person declined to give a Plain Talk reporter any medical details about Maxwell, but confirmed she was in the emergency room.
