NEWPORT-Former City of Newport Administrator Scott Collins, who was fired in March, has been hired as city administrator for Fayetteville, TN., which is located in middle Tennessee along the southern border.

In a telephone interview Thursday morning, Collins said Fayetteville has a lot in common with the City of Newport.

"The town's population is very, very similar" -- almost 7,000 in Fayetteville, and 7,242 in Newport, according to the U.S. Census in 2000," Collins said. He added, "Fayetteville has a beautiful courthouse square. Both towns have a great downtown area, as well."

When asked what he took the position as city administrator in Fayetteville, Collins said, "Well, I have to work, and provide for my family."
