NEWPORT-A kick-off luncheon Tuesday at West End Baptist Church got the ball rolling for Cocke County's second RAM (Remote Area Medical) event planned for the summer of 2014.

Approximately 50 representatives of various local medical businesses and organizations met with the Cocke County Health Council to begin laying plans for the weekend program that will bring volunteer doctors, nurses, dentists, and technicians to Cocke County High School where they will offer free medical care, examinations, and procedures ranging from eye care to tooth extractions.

Don Ellison, who will chair the event, said, "We're also exploring the possibility of having a veterinary clinic in conjunction with the RAM."
