NEWPORT-The City of Newport's 125 employees will keep their same health insurance with the same rates during the new 2013-2014 fiscal year that begins July 1.
That decision was reached on Tuesday, June 11, when the City Council met for its monthly meeting.
The city will spend an estimated total of $718,073 to offer the same health insurance to employees, which is an increase to the city of $58,903 over the present 2012-2013 fiscal year, according to interim City Administrator James Finchum.
In other business, Finchum requested the Council members approve a new clerical position to help him by taking over the duties of a city recorder.
