NEWPORT-One Newport resident and one Cosby resident were arrested after they alleged worked together to snatch a purse from a shopper at Walmart last Friday night or early Saturday morning, the Newport Police Department reported.

Sherlene Conyors said her purse was stolen out of her buggy while shopping at Walmart.

Conyors said a male, later identified as Michael Strange, 26, of 2734 Hartford Road, in Cosby, came up to her, and "occupied" her while a female, later identified as Jackie Harris, 35, of 2808 Early Road, in Newport, grabbed Conyors' purse out of her buggy, according to a report by Patrolman Derek Wright.

Strange and Harris allegedly ran out of the department store, where witnesses say they saw the two offenders leave in a white Dodge pickup truck.

The purse, valued at $150, had ID cards, bank cards, a payroll check for over $400, and a melted gold nugget valued at $100, the report stated.
