NEWPORT-Three people were rescued from the Pigeon River on Saturday, May 25 after their canoe apparently capsized, the Newport Police Department reported.

At 2:14 p.m., officers with the NPD were dispatched to the area of the Pigeon River between the North Street bridge and the East Broadway bridge on a report of a capsized canoe, Patrolman Joshua Veridal stated.

A brief search resulted in the finding of three people in the river behind Riverview Baptist Church at 644 River Road.

Justin McNealy, 36, and his 10-year-old daughter Skylar McNealy, were located on a large boulder in the river awaiting help, while Russell Parker was upstream standing in the current waiting for assistance.
