OLIVER SPRINGS—The season came to an abrupt end for Cosby High School's softball team on Friday evening.
The Lady Eagles, which were District 2-A champions and Region 1-A runners up this season, fell to Oliver Springs in a TSSAA Class A Sectional game by a 25-3 score on Friday night.
Oliver Springs advances to next week's state tournament in Murfreesboro. Cosby's season ends with the lopsided loss.
University High defeated Coalfield 5-4 in the other east Tennessee Class A softball sectional.
In AA softball sectionals, Gibbs beat Greeneville 11-1 and Unicoi County beat Union County 6-5. In Class AAA softball sectionals in East Tennessee, District 2-AAA Seymour High School blanked Farragut 4-0 and Maryville beat Daniel Boone 6-1.
In East Tennessee baseball sectionals in Class A, Rockwood beat Unaka 2-1 and Grace Christian defeated North Greene 10-3. In Class AA action, Elizabethton beat CAK 6-1 and Pigeon Forge blanked Greeneville 10-0 behind another no-hitter from South Carolina signee and projected top-50 draft pick Wil Crowe. In AAA action, Farragut defeated Sevier County 8-5 and Dobyns-Bennett and Knox Catholic continued to play after a long rain delay on Friday night.
