WHITE PINE—A man was arrested Saturday evening after he allegedly opened fire on deputies who were responding to check on him at his residence at 3291 Roy Messer Highway.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department (JCSD) received a domestic welfare call at about 3 p.m. out of concern of Dana Morelock recently losing his job.

Authorities reported the deputy arriving at the scene found the gate to the property locked. Morelock began cursing and yelling from his home for the deputy to leave his property. The home is located several hundred yards from the gate.
