NEWPORT-Two victims of a double shooting in Parrottsville early Tuesday morning, May 7, were released from a hospital later that day, the Cocke County Sheriff's Department reported.

Jeffery Stewart, 42, and David Lynn Dollar, 42, sustained gunshot wounds at 1855 Good Hope Road at about 12:16 a.m. They were flown by helicopter to the University of Tennessee Medical Center for non life-threatening injuries, according to a sheriff's department press release.

The incident was an attempted robbery that resulted in the shooting of Stewart and Dollar, K9 Deputy Sheriff Chris Gregg reported.

A black male described as short, chunky, and partially balding, accompanied by a white female, allegedly showed up at the residence brandishing a black semi-automatic handgun with a laser light on it. The unarmed female was descried as being short, skinny, and having long brown hair. She allegedly wore gray sweatpants and a sweatshirt, Gregg stated in his report.
