NEWPORT-Officers who said they spotted a man shooting up drugs in front of a child in a motel room at the Parkway Inn Motel, on Friday, May 3, arrested the man and his wife, the Cocke County Sheriff's Office reported.

Officers said they were at the Parkway Inn Motel on Cosby Highway at 10 p.m. to do "a knock-and-talk" about suspected narcotics activities when they allegedly saw in Room 109, James Richard Worthington, 25, of 806 Henry Road, in Newport, shooting up drugs at a sink next to the bathroom door, in front of a child.

Vicki Lynn Worthington, 48, opened the door for officers to enter. When officers knocked on the door, James Worthington allegedly went toward a trash can.

Officer Johnathan Ball said he looked over into the trash can and noticed the end of a syringe, the report stated.
