With only two games remaining in District 2-AAA softball play this afternoon, the upcoming league tournament brackets are almost set in stone.

Both the District 2-AAA Baseball and Softball tournaments will begin on Friday afternoon at four sites across the league.

In softball play, No. 1 Seymour High School and No. 2 Jefferson County High School will host a pair of four-team pods. In baseball, No. 1 Sevier County High School and No. 2 Morristown West High School will also host a pair of four-team pods.

In the fourth year of the tournament format, each top seed hosts a four-team double elimination tournament. The victor of each tournament will meet the winner of the opposite pod for the league championship at the site of the highest remaining seed.

In District 2-AAA baseball, No. 1 Sevier County will host No. 8 Cocke County, along with No. 4 Seymour and No. 5 Jefferson County. Sevier County and Cocke County will play at 5:30 p.m. on Friday with the Eagles and Patriots scheduled to play at 8 p.m.

At No. 2 Morristown West, the Trojans will host No. 7 Cherokee, along with No. 3 South Doyle and No. 6 Morristown East. The Trojans and Chiefs will play at 5:30 p.m. and South Doyle and Morristown East will play at 8 p.m.

At both sites, Friday night’s winners play on Saturday at 2 p.m., with Friday’s losers playing at 4:30 p.m. in an elimination game. The loser of Saturday’s winners bracket game and the winner of the elimination game play on Monday. On Tuesday a pair of games between that winner and Saturday’s winners will be held, with an if-neccessary game to be held immediately after.

The District 2-AAA title game is scheduled to be played on Wednesday, May 8.

In District 2-AAA softball, No. 1 Seymour will host No. 8 Sevier County, No. 4 South Doyle and No. 5 Morristown East. Seymour and Sevier County will play at 6 p.m. on Friday, with Morristown East and South Doyle scheduled for a 7:30 p.m. first pitch.

At No. 2 Jefferson County will be Cocke County, Morristown West and No. 3 Cherokee. Cocke County and Morristown West will be the sixth and seventh seeds. A Lady Red win over Cherokee today or a Morristown West loss to Jefferson County will give Cocke County the No. 6 seed.

If Morristown West beats Jefferson County, with a Cherokee win over Cocke County, then the Lady Trojans will be the sixth seed.

The sixth seed will face No. 3 Cherokee at 6 p.m. and No. 2 Jefferson County will play the No. 7 seed at 7:30 p.m.

At both sites, play will resume on Monday with a loser’s bracket elimination and a winners bracket game. On Tuesday, another elimination game will be held, with the bracket finals. Wednesday, May 8 is reserved for an if-necessary game and the District 2-AAA tournament game will be held on Thursday, May 9.
