NEWPORT-The Cocke County High School Fighting Cocks suffered a disappointing setback in their District 2-AAA series opener against Cherokee High School on Monday evening.

Cocke County mustered only a pair of hits and fell to the visiting Chiefs by an 8-3 score, in the series that will likely determine the difference between seventh and eighth seeds in next months District 2-AAA tournament.

The win was the first in district play for the Chiefs, while Cocke County remains winless in the league.

The same two teams will meet in the second game of the series tonight in Rogersville, with a 7 p.m. first pitch.
