NEWPORT-The secrecy of sexual abuse of children must end, officials said at a rally for openness held Thursday, April 18, at the downtown Courthouse.

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, so Safe Harbor Child Advocacy Center thanked public officials investigating cases of abuse and rescuing the victims of it.

As speakers took turns addressing a small crowd, they stood next to a stand-up banner describing Safe Harbor as "dedicated to serving children who are victims of severe neglect, physical and sexual abuse, through prevention, education, and intervention."

Tiny blue metal ribbons were handed out for those present to pin to their suits or shirts, in support of children who are abused.
