NEWPORT-Tony Garland said he heard his juvenile daughter screaming because a stranger was inside their residence, on Monday, April 15, at 1:42 a.m., Patrolman Josh Holt of the Newport Police Department reported.

Garland said his daughter told him after the incident that the unknown white male was standing in their hallway holding their dog by the mouth so it couldn't bark, the report stated.

Garland's daughter started screaming, causing the intruder to throw the dog down and run to the front door, where he left the residence, Holt stated.
